Design and synthesis of a Ni(ii) "sandwich" α-diimine complex (1) resulted in a switchable catalyst for the living polymerisation of ethylene over a range of temperatures and pressures. Varying these conditions produced a well-defined tetrablock copolymer comprising branched and highly linear polyethylenes. This copolymer improved the toughness of a phase separated LDPE/HDPE blend by nonreactive interfacial compatibilisation.

The exploration of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway in living cells is of great significance for achieving tumor diagnosis and treatment. However, visualization of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway induced by specific proteins has rarely been reported. In this paper, we designed and synthesized a fluorescent probe Cy-JQ1 based on the bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) inhibition.

Cellular context profiling of modification effector proteins is critical for an in-depth understanding of their biological roles in RNA -methyladenosine (mA) modification regulation and function. However, challenges still remain due to the high context complexities, which call for a versatile toolbox for accurate live-cell monitoring of effectors. Here, we propose a demethylation-switchable aptamer sensor engineered with a site-specific mA (DSA-mA) for lag-free monitoring of the mA demethylase FTO activity in living cells.

The discharge of oily wastewater not only pollutes waters but also deteriorates our living environment. Superhydrophobic cotton fabric is considered as an important remedy material for oily wastewater cleanup due to outstanding advantages including low cost, high porosity and switchable wettability. However, the existing superhydrophobic fabrics cannot exhibit durable superhydrophobicity during real-life applications due to poor interaction between the coatings and fabric substrates.

Any polymers composed of racemic segments are obviously optically inactive and lack any chiroptical applications. Here, we present an intriguing method for precisely generating global chirality in racemic copolymer assemblies without any external asymmetrical intervention via step-wise polymerization-induced chiral self-assembly (PICSA). Global supramolecular chirality of the nanoaggregates could be dynamically switched by the two diametrically opposed chiral conflict effects: "first come, first serve" effect and "late-comer lives above" effect, which can be controlled by the precisely specified the number and sequence of enantiomeric segments.
