Published: November 2019

Traumatic dental injuries (TDI) or tooth trauma have a global prevalence of 10-15%. These are often the cause of first visit to emergency room. Prognosis of teeth after injury is dependent on type of TDI, emergency treatment and time elapsed till definitive care. The low level of awareness among general public and medical practitioners often leads to delay in seeking treatment which often leads to pain, severe symptoms and poor prognosis. Pediatricians can play a significant role in identification of TDI, health advise, emergency care and referral to dentists. This paper highlights the important features to be noted in children with history of TDI and the key steps which needs to be taken in these situations.

Mandibular and maxillary fractures are common in small animals and present significant challenges for repair due to the intricate anatomical features involved. This retrospective case series describes a technique for achieving rigid open mouth maxillomandibular fixation using interarch wiring while maintaining correct alignment between the upper and lower teeth with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) moulds of the canine teeth for treating maxillomandibular fractures in cats. The study includes a description of the postoperative outcomes and complications encountered.

Objectives: This study aims to compare the clinical performance of 3D printed endocrowns (ECs) and prefabricated zirconia crowns (PZRCs) in restoring pulpotomized primary molars, over 3, 6, and 12 months.

Methods: Thirty pulpotomized mandibular primary molars in 16 children aged 4-8 years were randomized with a 1:1 allocation ratio into two groups: group (A), PZRCs, and group (B), 3D-printed ECs. All restorations were evaluated for esthetic, functional, and biological properties using FDI criteria at 3-, 6-, and 12-month intervals.

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Yenepoya Dental College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, Karnataka, India.

Apical fenestration is a defect in the alveolar cortical plate, exposing the root without involving the alveolar bone margin, often linked to trauma, periodontal disease, and orthodontic treatment, leading to symptoms such as pain and abscesses from endodontic infections. This case report describes managing a mucosal fenestration in an endodontically treated tooth with nonsurgical root canal therapy and periodontal surgery. A 44-year-old male presented with mucosal fenestration and pain in the upper front jaw due to trauma and an inadequately treated root canal.

Minimally invasive dentistry (MID) has revolutionized pediatric dental care by emphasizing the preservation of healthy tooth structures, reducing treatment-related trauma, and improving patient compliance. This narrative review explores advancements in MID techniques, including silver diamine fluoride (SDF), resin infiltration, atraumatic restorative treatment (ART), bioactive materials, laser-assisted therapies, and three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies. These approaches prioritize early diagnosis, prevention, and conservative management, aligning with patient-centered and sustainable practices.
