Most recent accounts highlight the importance of two aspects of cognition in the implicit understanding of the physical world: semantic knowledge (the ability to recognize, categorize, and relate concepts) and mechanical knowledge (the capability to comprehend how things mechanically work). However, how the human brain may integrate these cognitive processes remains largely unexplored. Here, we use functional magnetic resonance imaging to investigate this integration employing a novel free-viewing task.

Aside from their inclusion of a wide range of recent work in this area, including some notable publications by themselves, the answer is twofold: first, as they state explicitly in the preface to the first volume, derivations of the key results are presented 'at a level that a reader with a command of physics and mathematics comparable to that of an undergraduate in physics should be able to follow without having to take out pencil and paper' (vol. 1, p.

Introduction: The military employs a wide variety of training paradigms to prepare a ready medical force. Simulation-based training is prominently used in the military for all roles of care to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to render care from the battlefield to the hospital. The purpose of this scoping review is to synthesize the body of research in military healthcare simulation, highlight trends in the literature, and identify research gaps.

Vignetting constitutes a prevalent optical degradation that significantly compromises the quality of biomedical microscopic imaging. However, a robust and efficient vignetting correction methodology in multi-channel microscopic images remains absent at present. In this paper, we take advantage of a prior knowledge about the homogeneity of microscopic images and radial attenuation property of vignetting to develop a self-supervised deep learning algorithm that achieves complex vignetting removal in color microscopic images.

The self-powered triboelectric touch panel has garnered considerable research attention due to its potential to reduce system energy consumption and its applications in human-machine interfaces, e-skin, and the Internet of Things. Current methods for achieving triboelectric-based touch positioning in an × detection pixel array typically require signal amplitude comparison across at least + signal channels, thereby limiting lightweight design possibilities. In contrast, our novel "resistor ladder" approach necessitates only 4 signal channels for touch positioning.
