The reactivity of the gallium(I) compound NacNacGa (4) to a variety of unsaturated compounds has been studied. Whereas 4 proved surprisingly unreactive toward olefins, ketones, guanidines, and thioureas, it reacts with isocyanates and carbodiimides to furnish the products of coupling of two heterocumulenes. With isothiocyanate, the C═S cleavage occurs, leading to the dimer (NacNacGa)(μ-S)(μ-CNPh) and the cyclization product NacNacGa(SC═NPh). These compounds were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystal structure analyses. Oxidative addition of S═PPh occurs at elevated temperatures and results in the known dimer [NacNacGa(μ-S)].

As multiple imaging modalities cannot reliably diagnose cardiac tumors, the molecular approach offers alternative ways to detect rare ones. One such molecular approach is CRISPR-based diagnostics (CRISPR-Dx). CRISPR-Dx enables visual readout, portable diagnostics, and rapid and multiplex detection of nucleic acids such as microRNA (miRNA).

Transcriptional regulation of the piRNA pathway by Ovo in animal ovarian germ cells.

Genes Dev

Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, Li Ka Shing Centre, University of Cambridge, Cambridge CB2 0RE, United Kingdom

The gene-regulatory mechanisms controlling the expression of the germline PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) pathway components within the gonads of metazoan species remain largely unexplored. In contrast to the male germline piRNA pathway, which in mice is known to be activated by the testis-specific transcription factor A-MYB, the nature of the ovary-specific gene-regulatory network driving the female germline piRNA pathway remains a mystery. Here, using as a model, we combined multiple genomics approaches to reveal the transcription factor Ovo as regulator of the germline piRNA pathway in ovarian germ cells.

A mobile genetic element-derived primase-polymerase harbors multiple activities implicated in DNA replication and repair.

Primase-polymerases (PrimPols) play divergent functions from DNA replication to DNA repair in all three life domains. In archaea and bacteria, numerous and diverse PPs are encoded by mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and act as the replicases for their MGEs. However, their varying activities and functions are not fully understood.

The wheelchair service delivery process (SDP) is a large complex system and therefore has many potential points of failure; determining priorities for improvement is challenging. The complexities introduce several barriers to accessing and maintaining wheelchairs for individuals with mobility impairments. Given the breadth and depth of the barriers, it is important to know in which areas to focus future policy reform efforts.

The HoloFood project used a hologenomic approach to understand the impact of host-microbiota interactions on salmon and chicken production by analysing multiomic data, phenotypic characteristics, and associated metadata in response to novel feeds. The project's raw data, derived analyses, and metadata are deposited in public, open archives (BioSamples, European Nucleotide Archive, MetaboLights, and MGnify), so making use of these diverse data types may require access to multiple resources. This is especially complex where analysis pipelines produce derived outputs such as functional profiles or genome catalogues.
