These data display evidence of the fracture through the morphologies and the topographical features as well as roughness data of different ratios of R(recycled)-PET/PLA, PET(virgin)/PLA, PET(virgin)/Chitosan and R(recycled)-PET/chitosan. Also, data of the morphologies after degradation under accelerated weathering test and degradation mechanisms are revealed. The data supplement the article "Comparative assessment of miscibility and degradability on PET/PLA and PET/chitosan blends".

Plastic waste pollution has become a global crisis, with millions of tons of plastic expected to accumulate in landfills and in natural environments, posing a serious threat to wildlife and human health. As current recycling methods remain inefficient, there is an urgent need for innovative enzymatic solutions to break down plastics and enable a circular economy approach. In this study, we explore the plastic-degrading potential of microorganisms enriched from activated sludge (AS) sourced from a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)-a known microplastic-contaminated industrial niche.

Bio-based polymers such as poly(lactic acid), PLA, are facing increased use in everyday plastic packaging, imposing challenges in the recycling process of its counterpart polyester poly(ethylene terephthalate), PET. This work presents the exploration of the properties of PET/PLA blends with raw materials obtained from recycled plastics. Several blends were prepared, containing 50 to 90% PET.

The widespread use of commercial polymers composed of a mixture of polylactic acid and polyethene terephthalate (PLA-PET) in bottles and other packaging materials has caused a massive environmental crisis. The valorization of these contaminants cost-effective technologies is urgently needed to achieve a circular economy. The enzymatic hydrolysis of PLA-PET contaminants plays a vital role in environmentally friendly strategies for plastic waste recycling and degradation.
