Paralabral cysts in the acetabulum often occur in the setting of labral tears. While labral tears are commonly identified in femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, developmental dysplasia of the hip is also a cause of chondrolabral pathology. Our understanding of paralabral cysts has encouraged addressing the concomitant labral pathology, as this has been shown to result in cyst resolution.

It is commonly accepted that a primary goal of orthopaedic surgeries is to restore function for our patients, and to achieve this goal, many research studies aim to define outcomes that set a benchmark for knowing whether this mark is achieved. Unfortunately, return-to-play (RTP) and return-to-sport (RTS) metrics are often used without any strict definition or standardization. They often rely on patient recall, which could be biased, and often fail to distinguish level of performance after return to activity.

Self-injurious behaviors (SIB) commonly occur in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and span diverse topographies of self-inflicted behaviors ranging from head banging to hitting oneself against hard objects. Despite the high rates of SIB in autistic individuals, relatively little research has focused on psychological factors associated with the development and maintenance of SIB in individuals with autism and moderate-profound intellectual disability (ID). This commentary synthesizes existing literature on SIB and highlights the need for more research focused on psychological correlates and mechanisms in autistic individuals with moderate-profound ID.

This is commonly associated with femoroacetabular impingement, particularly with cam deformities due to shearing of the cam on the acetabulum. Additionally, ACD associated with labral tears or chondrolabral separation, when untreated, can compromise labral repair outcomes.
