The risk of malignancy for some diagnoses in thyroid fine-needle aspirations is higher than the actual risk of clinical progression. Other measures of prognosis may be helpful in managing patients with indeterminate thyroid fine-needle aspiration diagnoses. We estimated the risk of death due to disease (RDDD) for well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma using a series of over 15 000 aspirates with over 2000 excisions and data from the SEER database. RDDD was low (1.3% or less for all categories). The RDDD of some indeterminate thyroid aspirates was higher than for malignant aspirates. The RDDD may provide additional information for patients and clinicians seeking to manage patients with indeterminate thyroid fine-needle aspirates.

In the era of molecular testing, thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology are increasingly being managed nonoperatively. The false-negative rates of these molecular tests, and therefore missed malignancies, are not well defined in real-world clinical practice. This retrospective study of patients undergoing fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy at our health system between November 2017 and March 2022 included nodules with The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (TBSRTC) III and IV cytology and negative, currently negative, or negative but limited ThyroSeq version 3 (TSv3) results.

Rationale And Objectives: This study aims to develop a radiopathomics model based on preoperative ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) images to enable accurate, non-invasive preoperative risk stratification for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The model seeks to enhance clinical decision-making by optimizing preoperative treatment strategies.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from PTC patients who underwent thyroidectomy between October 2022 and May 2024 across six centers.

Background: Occult papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) refers to the PTC accidentally found due to its occult lesions. Classic, as the most common subtype of PTC, is usually considered to have a low degree of malignancy and a favorable prognosis. Currently, the American Thyroid Association Management Guidelines adopted active surveillance (AS) as an alternative to immediate surgery in some low-risk PTC patients with less than 1 cm in diameter.

Primary amyloidosis (AL type) is a systemic disease that can lead to structural and functional damage to organs and tissues such as the kidney, heart and liver with non-specific symptoms. Most of the affected patients develop thyroid infiltration and thus diffuse enlargement of the thyroid gland, while cases leading to hypothyroidism are exceedingly rare. Some researchers have analyzed thyroid function in newly diagnosed patients with AL amyloidosis, and found that the incidence of overt hypothyroidism is only 7%.
