A statistical approach for interplanar spacing metrology at a relative uncertainty below 10 using scanning transmission electron microscopy.

Micron

January 2025

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The Iby and Aladar Fleischman Faculty of Engineering, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv 6997801, Israel. Electronic address:

Atomic-scale metrology in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) allows to measure distances between individual atomic columns in crystals and is therefore an important aspect of their structural characterization. Furthermore, it allows to locally resolve strain in crystals and to calibrate precisely the pixel size in STEM. We present a method dedicated to the evaluation of interplanar spacing (d-spacing) based on an algorithm including curve fitting of processed high-angle annular dark-field STEM (HAADF STEM) signals.

Improving timing resolution of BGO for TOF-PET: a comparative analysis with and without deep learning.

EJNMMI Phys

January 2025

Sherbrooke Molecular Imaging Center and Department of Nuclear Medicine and Radiobiology, Université de Sherbrooke, 12th Avenue N, Sherbrooke, J1H 5N4, Québec, Canada.

Background: The renewed interest in BGO scintillators for TOF-PET is driven by the improved Cherenkov photon detection with new blue-sensitive SiPMs. However, the slower scintillation light from BGO causes significant time walk with leading edge discrimination (LED), which degrades the coincidence time resolution (CTR). To address this, a time walk correction (TWC) can be done by using the rise time measured with a second threshold.

Mid-to-far-infrared (IR) spectral content is recorded using the novel self-balanced and self-phase-corrected electro-optical (EO) sampling arrangement. Self-balancing guarantees that the electric field emerging from the EO crystal yields a signal of zero via a Wollaston prism and balanced photodetector (i.e.

Protonation states serve as an essential molecular recognition motif for biological processes. Their correct consideration is key to successful drug design campaigns, since chemoinformatic tools usually deal with default protonation states of ligands and proteins and miss atypical protonation states. The protonation pattern for the Endothiapepsin/PepstatinA (EP/pepA) complex is investigated using different dry lab and wet lab techniques.

Background: Wider availability of cannabis through medical and recreational legalization (MCL alone and RCL+MCL) has been hypothesized to contribute to reductions in opioid use, misuse, and related harms. We examined whether state adoption of cannabis laws was associated with changes in opioid outcomes overall and stratified by cannabis use.

Methods: Using National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) data from 2015 to 2019, we estimated cannabis law associations with opioid (prescription opioid misuse and/or heroin use) misuse and use disorder.
