ErbB-3 binding protein 1 (Ebp1) is a host protein which binds ErbB-3 receptor to induce signalling events for cell growth regulation. In addition, Ebp1 also interacts with ribonucleoprotein complexes. In recent times, Ebp1 was found to play an antagonistic role in viral infections caused by Influenza and Rinderpest viruses. In our present work we have tried to understand the role of Ebp1 in Chandipura virus (CHPV) infection. We have observed an induction in Ebp1 expression upon CHPV infection similar to other viruses. However, unlike other viruses an overexpressed Ebp1 only reduces viral protein expression, but does not affect its progeny formation. Additionally, this effect is being carried out in an indirect manner, as there is no interaction between Ebp1 and viral proteins. This is despite Ebp1's presence in viral inclusion bodies.

The abnormal deposition of amyloid β (Aβ), produced by proteolytic cleavage events of amyloid precursor protein involving the protease γ-secretase and subsequent polymerization into amyloid plaques, plays a key role in the neuropathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here we show that ErbB3 binding protein 1 (EBP1)/proliferation-associated 2G4 (PA2G4) interacts with presenilin, a catalytic subunit of γ-secretase, inhibiting Aβ production. Mice lacking forebrain Ebp1/Pa2g4 recapitulate the representative phenotypes of late-onset sporadic AD, displaying an age-dependent increase in Aβ deposition, amyloid plaques and cognitive dysfunction.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers discovered multiple avian calicivirus genomes featuring type 2 IRESs and identified an additional open reading frame (ORF1*) that overlaps with the main ORF1, suggesting complex genomic features in these viruses.
  • * The study confirmed that ribosomes can initiate translation at multiple sites on the avian calicivirus genomes, and this process requires specific initiation factors, with enhanced initiation occurring thanks to IRES-binding factors that interact with key

Abscission is the shedding of plant organs in response to developmental and environmental cues. Abscission involves cell separation between two neighboring cell types, residuum cells (RECs) and secession cells (SECs) in the floral abscission zone (AZ) in Arabidopsis thaliana. However, the regulatory mechanisms behind the spatial determination that governs cell separation are largely unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma (KIRC) is a rising malignant tumor, with EBP1 being upregulated in various cancers but its role in KIRC previously unexplored.
  • * Research methods included analyzing EBP1 expression in kidney tissues, knocking it down in KIRC cell lines, and conducting various assays to assess its impact on tumor characteristics like proliferation and invasion.
  • * Results indicated that EBP1 is linked to worse clinical outcomes in KIRC and appears to promote cancer progression through the p38/HIF-1α signaling pathway.

ErbB3-binding protein 1(Ebp1) has two isoforms, p42 Ebp1 and p48 Ebp1, both of which can regulate cell growth and differentiation. But these isoforms often have opposite effects, including contradictory roles in regulation of cell growth in different tissues and cells. P48 Ebp1 belongs to the full-length sequence, while conformational changes in the crystal structure of p42 Ebp1 reveals a lack of an α helix at the amino terminus.
