Objective: Introduction: The safe thresholds of blood pressure in preterm neonates are still unclear. The aim of our study was to substantiate the diagnostic criteria for the syndrome of arterial hypotension (AH) and indications for the appointment of hemodynamic support in premature infants with early onset bacterial infections.
Patients And Methods: Materials and methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted. 2 experimental groups were formed -premature babies with early onset bacterial infections and AH (n = 58), and control group (n = 62), premature babies without AH. The subjects of the study were a number of risk factors. Simple and multiple logistic regression analyses were used.
Results: Results: In premature infants with AH, compared with those without AH, there are significantly lower values of stroke index of left ventricle (SILV), index of resistance (IR) of the middle cerebral artery, pH, significantly higher level of urea in serum and a higher proportion of children with hypoglycemia. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to develop a clinical prognostic model for the AH-syndrome. Only prognostic model, which included SILV, blood pH and blood glucose, had high prognostic characteristics and the largest area under the ROC curve.
Conclusion: Conclusions: The following diagnostic criteria can be used for the appointment of medical support for hemodynamics: the digital value of the level of mean blood pressure, expressed in mmHg, is less than the gestational age in weeks, and at least one of the following indicators -pH is less than 7.2, blood glucose level is less than 2.8 mmol/l, SILV is less than the normal ranges.

Treatment of extreme premature infants (EPI) is limited by developmental immaturity primarily of the lung. A paradigm shift towards a more physiologic treatment of EPI as fetal neonates or , by keeping them in a womb-like environment to allow continued organ maturation, is the rationale for artificial womb technology. In this review, we discuss the artificial placenta and womb technology, it's rationale, the history of its development, the most recent preclinical models described in the literature and finally pertinent ethical considerations.

Premature and low birth weight neonates often struggle with oral intake due to immaturity or respiratory distress. Forkhead box protein 2 gene () is predicted to influence oral feeding ability in newborns, but studies assessing the role of this gene in influencing oral feeding ability are limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of gene polymorphism, particularly single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs17137124, on the duration of orogastric tube (OGT) use in moderate to late preterm neonates.

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a serious complication in premature infants. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of mitogen-activated protein 3 kinase 7 (Map3k7) affecting BPD by regulating caspase-1 mediated pyroptosis. The morphology of the lung tissue was observed using hematoxylin-eosin staining.

Premature infants, born before 37 weeks of gestation can have alterations in neurodevelopment and cognition, even when no anatomical lesions are evident. Resting-state functional neuroimaging of naturally sleeping babies has shown altered connectivity patterns, but there is limited evidence on the developmental trajectories of functional organization in preterm neonates. By using a large dataset from the developing Human Connectome Project, we explored the differences in graph theory properties between at-term (n = 332) and preterm (n = 115) neonates at term-equivalent age, considering the age subgroups proposed by the World Health Organization for premature birth.

Advancements in perinatal care have improved survival rates of extremely preterm infants born at 22 to 23 weeks of gestation, thus introducing new ethical challenges associated with their treatment. Therefore, we reviewed the epidemiological prognosis, treatment evolution, and ethical considerations associated with the care of preterm infants at the limit of viability. We comprehensively searched PubMed to find relevant English-language articles published between January 2014 and July 2024.
