- The purpose of this study was to evaluate postoperative deturgescence of lamellar donor graft after conventional Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK). It was a prospective study that included 55 eyes of patients (mean age 70.9±9.4 years; female 61.8%, male 38.2%). Preoperative thickness of lamella was compared with postoperative thickness six months after surgery. Central lamellar graft thickness decreased from 142±27 µm preoperatively to 124±20 µm 6 months postoperatively (p<0.01). After performing conventional DSAEK corneal transplantation, surgeons should expect deturgescence of corneal graft and reduction in thickness of lamellae by about 12% of initial thickness according to our results. We found this information important for better planning of surgical procedures and knowing what to expect after surgery, as well as for better cooperation with eye banks when ordering pre-cut corneal tissue.

Machine learning can be used to identify risk factors associated with graft rejection after corneal transplantation for keratoconus. The study included all keratoconus eyes that underwent primary corneal transplantation from 1994 to 2021. Data relating to the recipient, donor, surgery, and postoperative course that might be associated with the occurrence of a graft rejection reaction were compiled.

With the increasing sales of electric vehicles, lots of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) assembled with LiFePO (LFP) cathodes will retire in the next few years, posing a significant challenge for their effective and environmentally-friendly recycling. The main reason why spent LFP cathodes fail to re-utilize lies in the lattice defects caused by lithium loss and structural defects resulting from stress accumulation. In this work, we propose an in situ granule reconstruction strategy to directly regenerate spent LFP black mass (S-BM) using glycerol in industry settings.

Background: Keratoplasty is a surgical procedure in which a damaged or diseased cornea is replaced with healthy donor tissue, thereby restoring vision. Recent advancements have led to the replacement of penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) with the more selective deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) procedure, especially for treating keratoconus. Although DALK typically has a shorter recovery time, less pain and a lower risk of rejection, PKP is still being performed for more severe corneal diseases.
