Cardiac trauma often occurs in motor vehicle accidents. A 50-year-old female driver was transported to our hospital with multiple trauma after a high-speed car accident. After admission to the intensive care unit, cardiac ultrasound examination revealed traumatic tricuspid valve papillary muscle rupture and patent foramen ovale, while Lancisi's sign was noted on physical examination. Surgical treatment was performed with valve annuloplasty and closure of the patent foramen ovale and a covert right atrial defect that was detected intraoperatively.

We report the case of a previously independent 82-year-old female who experienced acute hemodynamic and respiratory deterioration requiring inotropic support due to a fat embolism during revision hip arthroplasty. Computed tomography pulmonary angiography demonstrated fat embolism, and transesophageal echocardiogram showed evidence of right ventricle strain and fat embolism in-transit in the right heart, as well as a moderate patent foramen ovale. Under transesophageal echocardiogram and intravascular ultrasound guidance, the Inari FlowTriever thrombectomy device was used successfully to retrieve the fat embolism with immediate hemodynamic improvement, no complications, and uneventful recovery.

This study aimed to investigate the metabolic mechanisms underlying the combination of patent foramen ovale (PFO) and migraine by assessing metabolite expression before and after interventional occlusion surgery. The study included 11 PFO patients from the Heart Center of Xinjiang Medical University Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who underwent transcatheter PFO intervention and occlusion surgery between January 2018 and February 2023, and 11 healthy controls. Blood samples were collected pre-surgery, 3 days post-surgery, and 30 days post-surgery for metabolomics analysis.

A thrombus straddling a patent foramen ovale (TSPFO) is a rare condition that presents significant health risks, including stroke or myocardial infarction, and can be life-threatening if not promptly addressed. We report the case of a 42-year-old female with morbid obesity who presented with sudden shortness of breath due to a bilateral pulmonary embolism. Imaging revealed a thrombus extending from the right atrium to the left atrium through the patent foramen ovale (PFO).
