Tuna is one of the most frequently consumed fish and, as a predator, can biomagnify pollutants. Metal and other elements pollution is an important worldwide concern. Based on these considerations, the aim of this work was to investigate the occurrence of As, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg and Pb in tuna coming from different FAO areas to evaluate human exposure. The analysis was performed on muscle tissues through a quadrupole inductively coupled mass spectrometry. One hundred thirty-one samples were analysed. One red tuna from the Adriatic Sea and 11 yellow tunas exceeded Pb maximum levels (MLs) with a concentration ranging 0.31-0.86 mg kg; three red tunas from different Mediterranean sub-areas exceeded Hg MLs, with a concentration range 1.19 to 1.80 mg kg. All the Hazard Indexes (HIs) were lower than one, indicating that only a negligible health hazard could derive from the ingestion of tuna, for both average and high consumers. The risk of carcinogenicity from Cr is still under debate at the concentrations detectable in food.

To explore the impacts of acute ammonia nitrogen (NH-N) stress on gill structure and the antioxidant ability of red and white muscles in juvenile yellowfin tuna (), this study used natural seawater as a control, establishing two experimental NH-N groups at 5 and 10 mg/L. Gills and red and white muscle were taken at 6, 24, and 36 h for the determination of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GHS-PX) levels, and to observe gill structure. The results indicated that, with increasing time, the MDA concentration and CAT activity in the gills of the 5 mg/L group showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing, while SOD activity exhibited a downward trend.

Macroalgae play a crucial role in blue carbon ecosystems, yet their elemental compositions in the Red Sea are not well documented. This study examined the concentrations of 22 elements in 161 macroalgae blade samples from 19 species (5 unidentified) across 3 phyla in the Saudi Arabian Red Sea. Macroalgae blades collected from coral reef habitats exhibited higher concentrations of K, As, and Sr compared to those from seagrass meadows, but had lower levels of total nitrogen (TN), Na, Mg, Al, P, S, Cr, Mn, Fe, and Zn.

Purpose: We aimed to assess the presence of microplastics in nasal irrigation methods commonly used in the treatment of sinusitis and rhinitis, and to evaluate human exposure.
Methods: A total of 150 samples were included in the study, consisting of nasal wash bottles containing nasal irrigation solution, seawater spray, syringes for nasal irrigation with isotonic solution. The amount of microplastics per millilitre in the samples and patient exposure during single use were assessed separately for each method and product.

In our study, we investigated the prognostic significance of hematological markers-NLR (Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio), PLR (Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio), and RDW-CV (Red Blood Cell Distribution Width-Coefficient of Variation)-in 117 glioblastoma patients. The data collected from January 2016 to December 2018 included demographics, clinical scores, and treatment regimens. Unlike previous research, which often examined these markers solely before surgery, our unique approach analyzed them at multiple stages: preoperative, postoperative, and before adjuvant therapies.
