The failure modes of ZnO nanowires (NWs) with hexagonal cross section subjected to a uniaxial load are systematically investigated by using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and two theoretical models considering the surface effect. Our results show that two different failure modes of the phase transition and buckling are triggered when the NWs are under uniaxial compression along the [0001] direction, in which the transformation between the two modes is related to the slenderness ratios of the NWs. Such slenderness-ratio-dependent mode transformation is mainly attributed to the competition between the critical stresses of phase transition and buckling. The Euler and Timoshenko models considering surface effect are further proposed to derive the critical slenderness for such mode transformation. The obtained analytical threshold values agree well with those of present MD simulations. Our results should be of great help for shedding some light on the design and application of functional devices based on ZnO NWs.

In this contribution, we apply our newly developed ball-milling platform, which combines Raman spectroscopy and thermal (IR) imaging, as well as acoustic and high-speed optical video recordings, to the synthesis and transformation of citric acid-isonicotinamide (1:2) cocrystal polymorphs in transparent PMMA jars. Particularly, we demonstrate how Raman, temperature, acoustic, and video data are complementary and enable detection and connection of chemical and physical events happening during ball-milling in a time-resolved manner. Importantly, we show that the formation of the three cocrystal polymorphs can be detected through acoustic analyses solely.

From X- To J-Aggregation: Subtly Managing Intermolecular Interactions for Superior Phototheranostics with Precise 1064 nm Excitation.

Adv Healthc Mater

January 2025

College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Functional Crystalline Materials Chemistry, Nanchang University, Nanchang, 330031, China.

The stacking mode in aggregate state results from a delicate balance of supramolecular interactions, which closely affects the optoelectronic properties of organic π-conjugated systems. Then, managing these interactions is crucial for advancing phototheranostics, yet remains challenging. A subtle strategy involving peripheral phenyl groups is debuted herein to transform X-aggregated SQ-H into J-aggregated SQ-Ph, reorienting intermolecular dipole interactions while rationally modulating π-π interactions.

Bacterial contamination is a very serious health and environmental problem, with the main source of toxicity being lipopolysaccharides in the cell walls of Gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, the development of effective analytical methods is crucial for the detection of lipopolysaccharide content. This work facilitates the efficient generation of precisely adjustable dual-mode signals for LPS detection in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) by inducing anisotropic morphological evolution of Au@Ag nanocubes (Au@AgNCs) through poly-cytosine (poly-C) DNA.

Geometry-Based Synchrosqueezing S-Transform with Shifted Instantaneous Frequency Estimator Applied to Gearbox Fault Diagnosis.

Heime (Tianjin) Electrical Engineering Systems Co., Ltd., Tianjin 301700, China.

This paper introduces a novel geometry-based synchrosqueezing S-transform (GSSST) for advanced gearbox fault diagnosis, designed to enhance diagnostic precision in both planetary and parallel gearboxes. Traditional time-frequency analysis (TFA) methods, such as the Synchrosqueezing S-transform (SSST), often face challenges in accurately representing fault-related features when significant mode closely spaced components are present. The proposed GSSST method overcomes these limitations by implementing an intuitive geometric reassignment framework, which reassigns time-frequency (TF) coefficients to maximize energy concentration, thereby allowing fault components to be distinctly isolated even under challenging conditions.

This work investigated the CrNiMo stainless steel using laser selective melting (SLM) technology and explored the effect of the tempering temperature on the microstructure and properties. After the tempering treatment, the quenched martensite transformed from a metastable to steady state, and residual austenite was formed. The results indicated that the elongation of the transverse specimen showed an upward trend as the tempering temperature increased, while the elongation of the longitudinal specimen first increased and then decreased.
