A new series of 3-hydroxyflavones (1-46) were synthesized according to the Claisen-Schmidt followed by Algar-Flynn-Oyamada reactions (AFO) in one step. The synthesized flavonoids were characterized by H NMR, C NMR and DCI-HRMS. All the synthesized compounds were tested in vitro for their 15-lipoxygenase inhibitory and cytotoxic activity against the human cell lines HCT-116 (Human colon carcinoma), IGROV-1 and OVCAR-3 (human ovarian carcinoma). It has been found that the derivatives 25, 37 and 45 were the most actives against HCT-116 (IC = 8.0, 9.0 and 9.0 μM, respectively) and against IGROV-1 (IC = 2.4, 5.0 and 6.0 μM, respectively). The derivatives 14 and 21 exhibited the higher anti-inflammatory activity at 100 μM with PI values of 76.50 and 72.70%, respectively. Molecule description was performed with DFT calculations, the drug likeness and bioactivity scores. The results exhibted that some compounds are in linear correlation with Lipinski's rule of five showing good drug likeness and bioactivity score for drug targets.

Importance: How epilepsy may promote cardiovascular disease remains poorly understood.
Objective: To estimate the odds of new-onset cardiovascular events (CVEs) over 6 years in older people with vs without epilepsy, exploring how enzyme-inducing antiseizure medications (EIASMs) and traditional cardiovascular risk factors mediate these odds.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This was a prospective cohort study using the comprehensive cohort of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), with 6 years of follow-up (2015-2021, analysis performed in December 2023).

Background And Aims: Short courses of intravenous (iv) methylprednisolone (MP) can cause drug induced liver injury (DILI). The aim of this study was to assess the clinical features and HLA associations of MP-related DILI enrolled in the US DILI Network (DILIN).
Methods: DILIN cases with MP as a suspected drug were reviewed.

Cisplatin is an antineoplastic drug that exhibits toxicity dependent on dosage and has adverse reproductive effects. (Bitter melon) is a natural vegetable plant; its active ingredients possess antioxidant, apoptotic, antiproliferative, hypoglycemic, and other therapeutic properties. This study evaluates the effect of the administration of bitter melon extract, cisplatin, and cisplatin/bitter melon cotreatment on liver and kidney functions, serum and testicular oxidative status, testis histology, and sperm parameters.

We report the case of an 18-month-old boy who developed a phototoxic skin reaction to terbinafine on his scalp, ears, and face in the form of disseminated erythematous plaques, which resembled subacute lupus erythematosus (SCLE) in their clinical presentation. Skin changes appeared a short time after the boy was exposed to sunlight during the period of time when he was treated with oral terbinafine due to Microsporum canis fungal scalp infection. Tinea capitis is a common dermatophyte infection primarily affecting prepubertal children (1).

Ca and Mg are essential nutrients, and deficiency can cause serious health problems. Thus, lack of Ca and Mg can lead to osteoporosis, with incidence rising both in absolute and age-specific terms, while Mg deficiency is associated with type II diabetes. Prevention via vitamin D or estrogen is controversial, and the bioavailability of Ca and Mg from supplements is significantly lower than that from milk products.
