Climate change is compelling species to seek refuge at higher elevations and latitudes. While researchers commonly study these migrations using discontinuous elevational transects, this methodology may introduce significant biases into our understanding of species movement. These potential biases could lead to flawed biodiversity conservation policies if left unexamined.

Sustainable Extraction Technology of Fruit and Vegetable Residues as Novel Food Ingredients.

Foods

January 2025

National Engineering Research Center for Fruit and Vegetable Processing, Key Laboratory of Fruits and Vegetables Processing, College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100083, China.

Background: Fruit and vegetable waste (FVW) is a global waste issue with environmental impacts. It contains valuable compounds such as polysaccharides, polyphenols, proteins, vitamins, pigments, and fatty acids, which can be extracted for food applications. This study aims to review sustainable extraction methods for FVW and its potential in the food industry.

Fully Inkjet-Printed Flexible Graphene-Prussian Blue Platform for Electrochemical Biosensing.

Biosensors (Basel)

January 2025

University of Zagreb, Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Trg Marka Marulića 19, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.

Prussian Blue (PB) is commonly incorporated into screen-printed enzymatic devices since it enables the determination of the enzymatically produced hydrogen peroxide at low potentials. Inkjet printing is gaining popularity in the development of electrochemical sensors as a substitute for screen printing. This work presents a fully inkjet-printed graphene-Prussian Blue platform, which can be paired with oxidase enzymes to prepare a biosensor of choice.

Impact of multiple maize technology package adoption on the production efficiency and food security of smallholder farmers in Ethiopia: Evidence from the Sidama region.

Heliyon

January 2025

Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Department of Agricultural Economics, and African Center of Excellence, Agricultural Policy Analysis-Big Data, Lilongwe, Malawi.

This study aimed to investigate the individual or combined impacts of multiple maize technology package adoption on the production efficiency and food security of smallholder farmers in the selected districts of Sidama region of Ethiopia. The cross-sectional data of 424 sample farmers owing 545 maize plots were collected using multistage sampling approaches. The selection-bias corrected multinomial endogenous switching regression (MESR) model was employed to assess the impact of improved maize seed, chemical fertilizers, and row planting adoption on the production efficiency and food security of smallholder maize-producing farmers.

Zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) are emerged as a promising alternative for sustainable energy storage, offering advantages such as safety, low cost, and environmental friendliness. However, conventional aqueous electrolytes in ZIBs face significant challenges, including hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and zinc dendrite formation, compromising their cycling stability and safety. These limitations necessitate innovative electrolyte solutions to enhance ZIB performance while maintaining sustainability.
