Objectives: To evaluate implementation of safety standards of compounded sterile preparations in different hospitals.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 124 hospitals from 19 countries. A survey was developed based on the guidelines and safety practices of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) for sterile preparations compounding, and was sent to the members of the Intravenous and Parenteral Nutrition experts' network (IV PN experts' network) in the Gulf region and beyond using SurveyMonkey software.
Results: 124 pharmacists were invited to participate in this study. Only 39 (31.5%) pharmacists from seven countries responded: 16 (41%) of the participants were pharmacy supervisors, and 23 (59%) had >10 years of work experience. However, a majority, 27 (69%), of the respondents were from Saudi Arabia. Written policies and procedures for sterile preparations compounding were available in 37 (95%) hospitals. The concentrated electrolytes were removed from all patient care areas in 28 (72%) hospitals, and 30 (77%) hospitals clearly labelled those as high-alert medications. The use of advanced technologies, such as bar code verification or IV robotics, for compounding sterile preparations were not implemented in 27 (69%) hospitals.
Conclusions: Minimum standards and best practice recommendations to ensure safety of sterile preparation compounding were implemented in many hospitals of different countries. However, advanced technologies were not implemented by the majority of the hospitals.

Pathogen contamination and harborage in low-moisture food (LMF) processing environments have resulted in outbreaks and recalls, but researchers are limited in their abilities to investigate solutions. Methods used in most laboratory studies do not accurately reflect the route of contamination or harborage of pathogens in LMF environments, which complicates studying of sanitation methods. Inoculation methods were compared to establish low-moisture food persistent bacterial populations (LMF PBPs) that realistically reflect populations found in LMF environments.

The current study aimed to synthesize a ZIF-8 metal-organic framework loaded with the Rose Bengal (ZIF-8@RB) as the photodynamic sterilization ingredient to address the uncontrolled release of active ingredients in packaging films. The photodynamic controlled release packaging film was then prepared using a PVDF polymer matrix via uniaxial electrospinning. The microstructure, particle size, excitation wavelength, and singlet oxygen yield of ZIF-8@RB were examined.

Rib fracture-related infection is a challenging complication of thoracic trauma due to the difficulty of treating it with antibiotics alone and the need for a second operation to remove the infected fixator and sterilize the surrounding infected tissue. In this study, inspired by the photocatalytic performance of and ion release from silver-based materials, including AgPO and AgS, a hybrid AgPO-AgS heterojunction was prepared based on anion exchange and a one-step calcination process to design a nonantibiotic coating aimed at preventing and treating rib fracture-related infection with short-term 808 nm near-infrared irradiation. Calcination at 250 °C enhanced the inductive effect of the phosphate radical and led to the formation of a tight nanoheterogeneous interface between AgPO and AgS, thereby promoting interfacial electron transfer and reducing the recombination of photogenerated carriers.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is among the most prevalent endocrinological abnormalities of young females, posing a grave public health challenge to the society. The objective of the present literature review is to analyze the enormous amount of information available by way of numerous multi-omic studies, and to explore a meaningful relationship between various factors such as genetic, proteomic, environmental etc. to understand the multifactorial metabolic disorder in a proper manner.

Introduction: To report the progress of the human living uterus transplant research project in Singapore.
Material And Methods: The uterus transplant research project began in 2012 with a collaboration between the Swedish and Singapore teams. Ethics approval was obtained from the SingHealth Centralised Institutional Review Board, the SingHealth Transplant and the Singapore General Hospital Biomedical Ethics Committee to perform 5 uterus transplant procedures in a collaborative multi-site research study at the Singapore General Hospital.
