Intermolecular distance and density scaling of dynamics in molecular liquids.

A broad variety of liquids conform to density scaling: relaxation times can be expressed as a function of the ratio of temperature to density, the latter raised to a material constant γ. For atomic liquids interacting only through simple pair potentials, the exponent γ is very nearly equal to n/3, where n is the steepness of the intermolecular potential, while for molecular liquids having rigid bonds and built using the same interatomic potential, γ > n/3. We find that for this class of molecular liquids, γ = n/δ, where the parameter δ relates the intermolecular distance to the density along an isomorph (the line of approximately constant dynamics and structure). δ depends only on the molecular structure and not the interatomic potential.

Cryopreservation of brain cell structure: a review.

Free Neuropathol

Friedman Brain Institute, Departments of Pathology, Neuroscience, and Artificial Intelligence & Human Health, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, New York, USA.

Cryopreservation, the preservation of tissues at subzero temperatures, is a mainstay of brain banking that allows for the storage of brain tissue without the use of chemical fixatives. This is particularly important for molecular studies that are incompatible with tissue fixation. However, brain tissue is vulnerable to various forms of damage during the cryopreservation process, in particular due to the phase transition of water from a liquid to a solid state with the formation of ice crystals, which can disrupt cellular morphology.

Enzyme-instructed signal generation at liquid-liquid interfaces presents a novel strategy for controlling and detecting biochemical processes on macroscopic scales. Here, we explore the self-assembly and jamming of pillar[5]arene (P[5]A) derivatives at the oil-water interface via a copper-mediated "click" reaction, providing a versatile platform for generating observable signals. The formation of a pillar[5]arenes network at the droplet interface reduces interfacial tension, allowing droplets to adopt various nonequilibrium shapes based on the interfacial jamming process.

To evade legal controls, new psychoactive substances (NPS), which have been designed as substitutes for traditional and synthetic drugs, are gradually dominating the drug market. Synthetic cannabinoids (SCs), which account for the majority of NPS, are rapidly being derivatized; consequently, controlling increasing abuse by merely listing individual compounds is difficult. Therefore, China has included the entire SC category of SCs listed as legal controlled substances since July 1, 2021.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the medicinal properties of SZS before and after processing and provide novel insights into its potential for treating insomnia.

Methods: This study employed the network pharmacology platform to gather information on the chemical composition of SZS, human targets, genes, molecular networks, and pathways associated with insomnia treatment using SZS. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/ MS) was utilized to analyze the chemical profiles of crude SZS, parched SZS, and their combined decoction.
