Introduction: Organoids are three-dimensional cellular aggregates derived from stem cells or primary tissues that can self-organize into organotypic structures and showcase the physiological functions of that organ. Organoids typically comprise multiple organ-specific cell types that are responsible for organ function in vivo. They may also incorporate various cellular and molecular stromal components to recapitulate the in vivo microenvironment of the target organ.

NIPBL::NACC1 Fusion Hepatic Carcinoma.

Am J Surg Pathol

February 2024

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Weill Cornell Medicine.

Article Synopsis
  • Several reports have documented a rare primary liver tumor that exhibits features similar to follicular thyroid neoplasms, but it has unique characteristics, including specific genetic fusions and immunoreactivity for inhibin.
  • This study presents a comprehensive analysis of 11 cases of these tumors, highlighting the typical patient profile (adult women with no prior liver disease), tumor characteristics, and the methods used for investigation, such as whole-genome sequencing (WGS).
  • The findings indicate that these tumors, which show distinct growth patterns and genetic fusions, should be classified as "NIPBL:NACC1 fusion hepatic carcinoma," due to their unique histological and molecular features.

To investigate the carotid sheath in neck dissection (ND) specimens histopathologically in patients with head and neck carcinomas who had no evidence of previous neck surgery or direct involvement of the carotid sheath in their pre- or intra-operative evaluations. In this study, carotid sheath (CS) specimens of 40 patients with head and neck carcinomas (HNCA) who, depending on the condition of the primary tumor, required unilateral or bilateral elective or therapeutic selective neck dissection were histopathologically investigated by an expert head and neck pathologist to find any lymphoid or thyroid like tissue or tumor cells infiltration. A total of 50 carotid sheath (CS) specimens were investigated.
