CTRP6 suppresses neutrophil extracellular traps formation to ameliorate sepsis-induced lung injury through inactivation of ERK pathway.

Allergol Immunopathol (Madr)

November 2022

Department of Emergency, Shanxi Bethune Hospital, Shanxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Tongji Shanxi Hospital, Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China.

Background: Septic lung injury is associated with excessive neutrophil activation, while neutrophil extracellular traps formation contributes to inflammatory lung injury in sepsis. C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein-6 (CTRP6) is a paralog of adiponectin and exerts anti- inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The role of CTRP6 in sepsis-associated inflammatory lung injury was investigated in this study.

C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein-3 (CTRP3) shows striking homologies of genomic structure to the adiponectin. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective role of CTRP3 against sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy. Here, we overexpressed CTRP3 in myocardium by direct intramyocardial injection and constructed a model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced sepsis in mice.

Obesity enhances sepsis-induced liver inflammation and injury in mice.

Obesity (Silver Spring)

July 2016

Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care Medicine, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

Objective: How obesity affects the response to sepsis was not completely understood. It was hypothesized that obesity alters adipose and hepatic tissue inflammation through signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT3) activation.

Methods: Male C57BL/6 mice at 6 weeks of age were randomized to a high-fat diet (60% kcal fat) or normal diet (16% kcal fat) for 6 to 7 weeks.

Role of the heme oxygenase-adiponectin-atrial natriuretic peptide axis in renal function.

Curr Pharm Des

July 2016

Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, 107 Wiggins Road, Saskatoon, SK, Canada S7N 5E5.

The incidence of renal complications including kidney failure is on the rise. Moreover, with aging of the population and the high incidence of diabetes, hypertension and obesity, this trend may prevail. An important cytoprotective enzyme that has been shown to improve renal function is heme-oxygenase (HO).
