An analytical method was proposed for quantitative determination of rheological properties of polyacrylamide (PAM) solution in the presence of SiO nanoparticle and NaCl. The viscosity of PAM-SiO nanohybrid solution was predicted using attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy in the wavenumber range of 800-3000 cm and chemometrics methods. Support vector machine regression (SVM-R) as a non-linear multivariate calibration procedure and partial least squares regression (PLS-R) as a linear procedure were applied for calibration. Preprocessing methods such as baseline correction and standard normal variate (SNV) were also utilized. Root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) in SNV-SVM and SNV-PLS methods were 3.231 and 6.302, respectively. Considering the complexity of the samples, the SVM-R model was found to be reliable. The proposed method is rapid and simple without any sample preparation step for measurement of the viscosity of polymer solutions in chemical enhanced oil recovery (CEOR).

Zerumbone is a sesquiterpene phytochemical with cytotoxic activity against cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of zerumbone on cell viability by WST-1 test, apoptosis by TUNEL, lipid peroxidation markers (malondialdehyde, MDA, and 4-hydroxynonenal, HNE) by using assay kits, and biomolecular changes by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy in A549 cells. After zerumbone (0-100 μM) incubation for 24, 48, and 72 h, the number of TUNEL-positive cells was found to be higher in zerumbone-treated cells than in controls, in consistent with cell morphology results.

Oxygen electrocatalysis plays a pivotal role in energy conversion and storage technologies. The precise identification of active sites for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for developing an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst. However, this remains a challenging endeavor.

In this research, tartaric acid was used to enhance the hydroxyapatite coating on AZ31 Mg alloy substrate through post-treatment and direct addition methods, and the corrosion resistance and biological activity of the samples were investigated. The parameters of concentration, immersion time, and pH of the coating solution were optimized by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Direct Current (DC) Polarization techniques. According to EIS results in the post-treatment method, tartaric acid with a concentration of 1 g/L, pH = 9 and immersion time of 2 min, increased the corrosion resistance of hydroxyapatite coating from 3630 to about 18,763 Ω.

December 2024

Department of Medical, Oral and Biotechnological Sciences, University "G. D'Annunzio" of Chieti-Pescara, Via dei Vestini 31, 66100 Chieti, Italy.

: The study exploited, for the first time, Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform-InfraRed (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy on human dental pulps at different timings of root resorption (RR) to deepen the biological mechanisms occurring in deciduous teeth (De) during their replacement with permanent ones. : N:36 dental pulps from sound De were divided into the following: G0 (no RR); G1 (RR less than 1/3 of root length); G2 (RR not exceeding 2/3 of root length); and G3 (RR more than 2/3 of root length). Samples were analyzed by ATR-FTIR, and the spectral data were submitted to univariate (One-way ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparison tests; statistical significance set at < 0.
