D-α-Tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS), a polyethylene glycol condensate, is a biologically important nonionic amphiphile. In this study, we report on aqueous solution behavior of TPGS with a focus on its clouding, surface activity, micellar characteristics, and solubilization capacity for a model hydrophobic drug, carbamazepine (CBZ). Micelles were characterized by dynamic light and small-angle neutron scattering studies as a function of temperature, salt addition, and CBZ solubilization. TPGS showed a cloud point of 78°C and possessed good surface activity (as observed from surface tension reduction and adsorption parameters). The critical micelle concentration (CMC), obtained from surface tension and fluorescence studies, was 0.02 mM. Scattering studies showed formation of stable micelles (average diameter-12 nm), exhibiting no significant changes in size upon salt addition (up to 1 M NaCl), CBZ incorporation (up to 5 mM), and temperature increase (40°C). Micelles in 5 wt% TPGS showed about twentyfold enhancement in CBZ solubility. Considering the remarkable CBZ solubilization and its positioning in the core, we suggest that the formulation can be exploited as a sustained delivery vehicle.

Typical wet-chemical methods for the preparation of silica nanowires use polyvinylpyrrolidone and n-pentanol. This study presents a polyethylene glycol-based emulsion template method for the synthesis of SiO nanowires (SiONWs) in isopropanol. By systematically optimizing key parameters (type of solvent, polyethylene glycol molecular weight and dosage, dosage of sodium citrate, ammonium and tetraethyl orthosilicate, incubation temperature and time), SiONWs with diameters about 530 nm were obtained.

For millennia, aloe vera (AV) and eucalyptus oil (EO) have been recognized as natural sources of healing and have been utilized for medicinal purposes in the realm of health. As an attempt to treat pressure sores, AV and eucalyptus oil were added as supplements to biocompatible and biodegradable poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) polymer to synthesize nano and micro fibrous wound dressings by the electrospinning process. Additive solubility in polymeric matrix is the key parameter to achieve the synthesis of homogeneous fibers with controlled release of therapeutic oils, cure and humidity; therefore, lecithin as herbal (soybean) based emulsifier was used to control additive/polymer solubility.

The integration of second near-infrared (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging and photothermal therapy (PTT) achieved precise and efficient tumor treatment. BODIPY, a promising fluorescent dye, is widely used in biological fluorescence imaging due to its excellent optical properties and chemical stability. However, the excitation wavelengths of BODIPY typically range from 530 nm to 650 nm within the visible spectrum, which significantly limits tissue penetration.

Optimizing the immune microenvironment is essential for successful implant osseointegration. In this study, four different nano/microstructures were fabricated on polyetheretherketone (PEEK) substrates by varying the agitation speed during sulfonation to influence osteoimmunomodulation and implant integration. The results indicate that nano/microstructures with minimal dimensions (SP450) inhibit actin polymerization by reducing calcium influx through PIEZO1, activating the anti-inflammatory M2 macrophage phenotype.

The present study aims to develop and characterize cannabidiol (CBD) solid dispersions using Vacuum Compression Molding (VCM) to enhance the drug solubility and release profile. Solid dispersions of CBD and polymers were processed using VCM at 130 °C for 4 min after a prior physical mixing. Five percent w/w of CBD was used with 5% w/w of poloxamer 188 and 90% w/w of polymeric carrier (Polyethylene Oxide, PEO-N80 or Hydroxypropyl cellulose, HPCEF).
