Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematologic malignancy and occurs similar to cardiovascular diseases (CVD), in the sixth/seventh decade. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate the prevalence and prognostic value of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) and CVD in 325 patients with MM undergoing autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) at the University Hospital of Würzburg between 03/2004 and 12/2011. Mean age in the total cohort was 61 years. Among CVRF, prevalence of arterial hypertension was highest (59.7%), followed by overweight (54.2%) and positive smoking history (18.2%). The prevalence of heart failure (3.1%) or coronary heart disease (4.8%) was low. During a median follow-up of 36 months, 18% of the patients died. Hypertension (HR = 1.83, = 0.048) as well as positive smoking history (HR = 2.13, = 0.02) were independently associated with increased mortality risk in multivariate analysis. In a subgroup analysis of 100 patients echocardiographic parameters were compared before and after PBSCT. Echocardiography revealed a significant reduction of left atrial diameters (-1.5 mm, = 0.009) and septum thickness (-1.0 mm, = 0.001), non-significant reduction of systolic function, and an increase of the prevalence of diastolic dysfunction (+14%; = 0.01). In this study CVRF, especially hypertension and smoking, are strong predictors of poor survival in patients with MM undergoing autologous PBSCT. Echocardiography before and after treatment shows subtle changes in systolic function but an increase of the prevalence of diastolic dysfunction.

Apheresis is essential to conducting hematopoietic cell transplantation and genetically engineered cellular therapy procedures. Many patients and donors require central venous catheter (CVC) access for apheresis due to lack of adequate peripheral venous access. CVC placement has risks of associated complications and requires additional institutional resources and expertise.

Introduction Multiple myeloma (MM) is a complex plasma cell malignancy characterized by clonal proliferation and monoclonal immunoglobulin production. Despite the availability of several prognostic markers for MM, many are challenging to implement routine clinical practice due to cost, complexity, or lack of standardization. Red cell distribution width (RDW), a cost-effective and routinely measured parameter in complete blood counts, has gained increasing attention as a prognostic marker due to its association with disease severity and outcomes in MM.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a multi-system disease characterized by a dysregulated immune system. Autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (AHCT) is the only treatment that has been shown to confer significant benefit in controlling disease and improving survival for patients with SSc. A diagnosis of multiple myeloma (MM) after the diagnosis of SSc is rare and optimal treatment in such cases remains unclear.

Background/objectives: Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is a curative treatment for various hematological diseases but can lead to complications which increase malnutrition risk, particularly in allogeneic transplantation patients. This study evaluates the nutritional status evolution of patients undergoing HCT during hospitalization and follow-up.

Methods: This retrospective observational study included 365 patients, divided into two groups: 134 underwent allogeneic HCT, while 231 underwent autologous transplantation or CAR-T therapy.

Background: This study aims to investigate the association of pre-conception vitamin D levels on adverse pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing in vitro fertilization with fresh embryo transfer.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study using archived serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D measured in the pre-conception period before ovarian stimulation in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization with fresh autologous embryo transfer. A total of 306 women were included and adverse pregnancy outcomes in their resulting pregnancy were recorded.
