Article Synopsis
  • Hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) is a powerful tool for analyzing protein dynamics, but it faces challenges in fully covering glycosylated proteins due to unrecorded modifications at N-glycosylation sites.
  • Using a Tribrid Orbitrap Eclipse mass spectrometer, researchers detected deuterated glycopeptides from the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein to improve analysis accuracy.
  • By incorporating these glycopeptides into their study, they increased the sequence coverage of the spike protein from 76% to 84%, enhancing the understanding of structural changes in response to heat treatment.

The detection of β-galactosidase (β-gal) activity produced by () can quickly analyze the pollution degree of seawater bodies in bathing and fishing grounds to avoid large-scale outbreaks of water pollution. Here, a functionalized biosensor based on graphene-based field effect transistor (GFET) modified with heat-denatured casein was developed for the ultrasensitive and label-free detection of the β-gal produced by in real water samples. The heat-denatured casein coated on the graphene surface, as a probe linker and blocker, plays an important role in fabricating GEFT biosensor.

Accessory spleen and splenosis are two types of ectopic spleen. An accessory spleen can be found in various sites in the abdomen, but an intrahepatic accessory spleen is very rare though many case reports of intrahepatic splenosis are available. This case report presents the incidental diagnosis of accessory spleen in the liver of a 57-year-old male while undergoing laparoscopic diaphragmatic repair.

The heat shock response (HSR) controls expression of molecular chaperones to maintain protein homeostasis. Previously, we proposed a feedback loop model of the HSR in which heat-denatured proteins sequester the chaperone Hsp70 to activate the HSR, and subsequent induction of Hsp70 deactivates the HSR (Krakowiak et al., 2018; Zheng et al.

Abdominal splenosis mimicking peritoneal carcinomatosis of ovarian cancer.

Radiol Case Rep

March 2023

Department of Radiology, Instituto Portugues de Oncologia de Lisboa Francisco Gentil, Rua Prof. Lima Basto, 1099-023 Lisboa, Portugal.

We present the clinical case of a 53-year-old woman referred for suspicion of recurrence of a mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma of the ovary. Abdominal and pelvic CT revealed multiple round/oval solid nodules with similar density scattered throughout the abdomen and pelvis, the biggest ones appearing in the left hypochondrium; no normal-appearing spleen or ascites were observed. These radiological findings and the absence of significant elevation of CA 125 levels made the radiologists hypothesize that these aspects were related to abdominal splenosis.
