Background: Menopausal women lose until 5% of their bone density during the first years of menopause. One of 12 Mexican women will suffer a hip osteoporotic fracture after the age of 50.
Objective: To assess the absolute risk of major fracture (vertebrae, hip and forearm) and hip fracture and to establish the relation between years of menopause and bone mineral density (BMD).
Method: A cross sectional analytical study, including women over 50 classified by early and natural menopause. Bone densitometry was performed and risk of fracture was calculated with FRAX (Fracture Risk Assessment Tool).
Results: From 209 women, 32% had early menopause and 68% had natural menopause. The average age were 67.4 ± 9.2 vs. 65.9 ± 8.3 years; they had 27.3 ± 9.4 vs. 15.2 ± 8.4 years of menopause (p ≤ 0.01); the hip BMD was 0.6286 ± 0.115 vs. 0.6789 ± 0.132 g/cm (p ≤ 0.05), with a T-score of -2.11 ± 0.979 vs -1.70 ± 1.129 (p ≤ 0.05), respectively. The 10 years risk probability for major fractures was 8.8 ± 4.7 vs. 7.4 ± 4.7 (p ≤ 0.05) and for hip fractures was 3.2 ± 3.0 vs. 2.5 ± 2.9 (p > 0.05).
Conclusions: We recommend to take into account the clinical importance of the years of menopause and the type of menopause, as factors that influence the bone density decrease and the increase of future fractures risk.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women globally with an estimated 2.3 million new cases in 2020. In Nigeria, it constitutes about 12% of all new cancers and 25% of all cancers in women.

Objective: To assess the genotypic and allelic distribution of the rs10046 polymorphism in the gene and evaluate whether this aromatase gene variant is associated with cardiovascular risk in postmenopausal women.
Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed repository-stored samples from 370 postmenopausal women aged 44-72 years. Clinical, metabolic, and hormonal data were collected.

Arthritis, a chronic inflammatory condition linked to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and bone fracture, is more frequent among military veterans and postmenopausal women. This study examined correlates of arthritis and relationships of arthritis with risks of developing CVD, bone fractures, and mortality among postmenopausal veteran and non-veteran women. We analyzed longitudinal data on 135,790 (3,436 veteran and 132,354 non-veteran) postmenopausal women from the Women's Health Initiative who were followed-up for an average of 16 years between enrollment (1993-1998) and February 17, 2024.

Objective: Although dysregulated inflammation has been postulated as a biological mechanism associated with post-acute sequelae of severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection (PASC) and shown to be a correlate and an outcome of PASC, it is unclear whether inflammatory markers can prospectively predict PASC risk. We examined the association of leukocyte count and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) concentrations, measured ~25 years prior to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, with PASC, PASC severity, and PASC-associated cognitive outcomes at follow-up among postmenopausal women.
Methods: Using biomarker data from blood specimens collected during pre-pandemic enrollment (1993-1998) and data on 1,237 Women's Health Initiative participants who completed a COVID-19 survey between June 2021 and February 2022, we constructed multivariable regression models that controlled for pertinent characteristics.

Unlabelled: Dietary quality may be a factor in the progression of non-communicable, chronic diseases. This analysis of NHANES data demonstrates association between consumption of UPF and prevalence of osteoporosis and osteopenia in adults 50 years and older. UPF intake is an important consideration when recommending dietary patterns for optimum bone health PURPOSE: Declining bone mineral density in older adults can result in osteoporosis, leading to decreased physical function, quality of life, and increased risk of mortality.
