An improved understanding of patient-related violent events toward healthcare workers (HCWs) is a critical step in mitigating patient violence in the pediatric medical hospital setting. Therefore, we sought to describe the timing/setting, potential antecedents to, and management of pediatric patient-related violence toward HCW. Using our electronic health record (EHR), we performed a retrospective study of patient-related physical violent events from 2017 to 2022 among youth hospitalized at our free-standing children's hospital.

However, EHR data are not frequently available, cleaned, standardized, validated, and ready for use by stakeholders. Background: Risk models to predict perioperative mortality rates (POMR) are critical to surgical quality improvement yet are not widely adapted for use in humanitarian and low-resource settings (LRS). We developed a POMR and corresponding nomogram and calculator for use in humanitarian surgical care.
Methods: Electronic health record data from a high-income academic medical center from 2015 to 2019 were retrospectively extracted, selecting variables and operations specific to LRS.

Background: Cancer-associated cachexia can inhibit immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy efficacy. Cachexia's effect on ICI therapy has not been studied in large cohorts of cancer patients aside from lung cancer. We studied associations between real-world routinely collected clinical cachexia markers and disability-free, hospitalization-free and overall survival of cancer patients.
