In this study, xanthan gum is used as a model exopolymer to demonstrate potential effects of non-Newtonian properties of natural aquatic systems on settling dynamics of particles. Rheological measurements combined with settling experiments using visualization methods revealed that instantaneous velocity fluctuations and a flow pattern formed around a particle are the effects of solution viscoelasticity and shear-thinning properties and that the average settling velocity depends on the exopolymer concentration and particle size. Our study showed that in the considered conditions a disk-shaped particle settles preferably in vertical position with a negative wake behind. The understanding of these processes is essential in technology and engineering and is necessary to improve prediction accuracy of large-scale sedimentation processes and biogeochemical cycles in the ocean involving settling of minerals, marine snow, microplastics, and locomotion of microorganisms.

This study aims to establish a thyristor-controlled series compensator (TCSC) equipped with a proportional integral derivative with filter (PIDF) controller by using a futuristic optimisation technique called evolutionary programming sine cosine algorithm (EPSCA) with multiobjective function (MOF). EPSCA is developed by merging evolutionary programming and the sine cosine algorithm. Three stability indicators, i.

Water quality monitoring is one of the critical aspects of industrial wastewater treatment, which is important for checking the treatment effect, optimizing the treatment technology and ensuring that the water quality meets the standard. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) is a key indicator for monitoring water quality, which reflects the degree of organic matter pollution in water bodies. However, the current methods for determining COD values have drawbacks such as slow speed and complicated operation, which hardly meet the demand of online monitoring.

This paper examines the motivations and experiences of older French-speaking men who relocate to Thailand driven by the desire for a more fulfilling and liberated lifestyle that contrasts with their experiences in their home countries. Through an analysis of video interviews with 31 expatriates available online, the study reveals a prevalent trend among these men to initially engage in short-term sexual relationships, enjoying the freedoms of Thailand's vibrant social scene. However, as they acclimate to their new environment, a significant shift towards long-term partnerships is observed, marking a transition from transient interactions to more meaningful connections.

Plant viruses have been known to alter host metabolites that influence the attraction of insect vectors. Our study investigated whether (CYVCV) infection influences vector attractiveness, focusing on the citrus whitefly, (Ashmead). Free choice assays showed that citrus whiteflies exhibited a preference for settling on CYVCV-infected lemon plants versus healthy control plants.

Background/objectives: Basal cell skin cancer (BCSC) develops when skin cells proliferate uncontrollably. Sonidegib (SDB) is a therapeutic option for the treatment of BCSC by inhibiting hedgehog signaling. The problems with SDB's low solubility, poor bioavailability, resistance, poor targeting, and first-pass action make it less effective when taken orally.
