Taking advantage of the synergetic effect of confined ultrasmall metal clusters and zeolite frameworks is an efficient strategy for improving the catalytic performance of metal nanocatalysts. Herein, it is demonstrated that the synergetic effect of ultrasmall ruthenium (Ru) clusters and intrinsic Brønsted acidity of zeolite frameworks can significantly promote the hydrogen generation of ammonia borane (AB) hydrolysis. Ultrasmall Ru clusters are embedded onto the silicoaluminophosphate SAPO-34 () and various aluminosilicate zeolites ( *, and ) with tunable acidities by a facile incipient wetness impregnation method. Evidenced by high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, the sub-nanometric Ru clusters are uniformly distributed throughout the zeolite crystals. The X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements reveal the existence of Ru-H species between Ru clusters and adjacent Brønsted acid sites of zeolites, which could synergistically activate AB and water molecules, significantly enhancing the hydrogen evolution rate of AB hydrolysis. Notably, the Ru/SAPO-34-0.8Si (Si/Al = 0.8) and Ru/FAU (Si/Al = 30) catalysts with strong acidities afford high turnover frequency values up to 490 and 627 min, respectively. These values are more than a 13-fold enhancement than that of the commercial Ru/C catalyst, and among the top level over other heterogeneous catalysts tested under similar conditions.

The prevalence of major bacterial infections has emerged as a significant menace to human health and life. Conventional treatment methods primarily rely on antibiotic therapy, but the overuse of these drugs has led to a decline in their efficacy. Moreover, bacteria have developed resistance towards antibiotics, giving rise to the emergence of superbugs.

Individual theranostic agents with dual-mode MRI responses and therapeutic efficacy have attracted extensive interest due to the real-time monitor and high effective treatment, which endow the providential treatment and avoid the repeated medication with side effects. However, it is difficult to achieve the integrated strategy of MRI and therapeutic drug due to complicated synthesis route, low efficiency and potential biosafety issues. In this study, novel self-assembled ultrasmall FeO nanoclusters were developed for tumor-targeted dual-mode T/T-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided synergetic chemodynamic therapy (CDT) and chemotherapy.

State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials, Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Nano-Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Donghua University, Shanghai, 201620, China.

Venous/arterial thrombosis poses significant threats to human health. However, drug-enabled thrombolysis treatment often encounters challenges such as short half-life and low bioavailability. To address these issues, the design of erythrocyte-membrane (EM) camouflaged nanocapsules (USIO/UK@EM) incorporating ultra-small iron oxide (USIO) and urokinase (UK) drug, which exhibits remarkable photothermal/magnetothermal effects and drug delivery ability for venous/arterial thrombolysis, is reported.

Nanozymes with inherent enzyme-mimicking catalytic properties combat malignant tumor progression via catalytic therapy, while the therapeutic efficacy still needs to be improved. In this work, ultrasmall platinum nanozymes (nPt) in a confined domain of a wormlike pore channel in gold nanobipyramidal-mesoporous silica dioxide nanocomposites, producing nanozyme carriers AP-mSi with photoenhanced peroxidase ability, are innovatively synthesized. Afterward, based on the prepared AP-mSi, a lung-cancer nanozymes probe (AP-HAI) is ingeniously produced by removing the SiO template, modifying human serum albumin, and loading atovaquone molecules (ATO) as well as IR780.
