The main prerequisite of an active visible-light-driven photocatalyst is to effectively utilize the visible light to induce electron-hole (e/h) pairs of expanded lifetime. To this end, for the first time, the ternary heterojunctions of CeO/FeO /Graphene oxide and Ce/ FeO /Graphene oxide (CeO/FeO/GO and FeCeO/GO) were prepared via facile ultrasonic-assisted procedures and employed for destruction of oxytetracycline (OTC) under visible light irradiation. The changes in the relative crystal structure, morphology, atomic and surface functional group composition, magnetic, and optic properties of magnetite were uncovered by various techniques. The substantial degradation and mineralization of OTC via visible light/FeCeO/GO system were thoroughly discussed in terms of narrowed band gap energy, the principal function of Ce/Ce and Fe/Fe redox pairs and GO platelets, enhanced charge separation and transfer, and enlarged active surface area. Furthermore, the performance of visible light/FeCeO/GO system was evaluated for treating real wastewater and its efficiency was investigated using a number of enhancers and scavengers. Finally, the generated byproducts in the course of photodegradation were determined and the oxidation pathway, photocatalytic kinetics, and plausible mechanism were proposed. The results confirmed that the introduced Ce ions and graphene oxide sheets boost the photo-catalytic efficiency of magnetite for photodegradation of OTC.

The development of heterojunctions is a proven strategy to augment the photocatalytic efficiency of materials. However, the enhancement in charge transfer facilitated by a single heterojunction is inherently constrained. To overcome these limitations, we synthesized a dual S-scheme heterojunction ternary composite photocatalyst, CuO/NiAl-LDH@MIL-53(Fe), designed for efficient visible-light-driven hydrogen (H) production.

Multivalued logic (MVL) systems, in which data are processed with more than two logic values, are considered a viable solution for achieving superior processing efficiency with higher data density and less complicated system complexity without further scaling challenges. Such MVL systems have been conceptually realized by using negative transconductance (NTC) devices whose channels consist of van der Waals (vdW) heterojunctions of low-dimensional semiconductors; however, their circuit operations have not been quite ideal for driving multiple stages in real circuit applications due to reasons such as a reduced output swing and poorly defined logic states. Herein, we demonstrate ternary inverter circuits with near rail-to-rail swing and three distinct logic states by employing vdW p-n heterojunctions of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and MoS where the SWCNT layer completely covers the MoS layer.

Iron phthalocyanine (FePc) is a promising non-noble metal catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). While, with the plane-symmetric FeN site, the ORR activity of FePc is generally low due to its low ability to adsorb and activate O. Herein, we anchor FePc on Mg(OH)/N-doped carbon nanosheets building the ternary plate-like catalyst FePc/Mg(OH)/NC.

Carbazole-derived self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are promising materials for hole-extraction layer (HEL) in conventional organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Here, a SAM Cbz-2Ph derived from 3,6-diphenylcarbazole is demonstrated. The large molecular dipole moment of Cbz-2Ph allows the modulation of electrode work function to facilitate hole extraction and maximize photovoltage, thus improving the OPV performance.

This study presents a facile one-pot synthesis method to fabricate BiFeO-BiFeO-BiO heterojunction photocatalysts with controllable compositions and pure phases. Three different binary heterojunctions (BiFeO/BiFeO, BiFeO/BiO, and BiFeO/BiO) and a ternary BiFeO/BiFeO/BiO heterojunction were formed, all exhibiting significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and phenol under visible light irradiation, outperforming the individual compositions. Notably, the BiFeO/BiFeO heterojunction achieved the highest degradation efficiency (93.
