The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the strategic goals of planning for a functionally and aesthetically optimal dentate quality of life, and the role that teeth maintained through root canal treatment can play in such a plan. The perception that root-treated teeth should largely, and wherever possible, be discarded as a viable option is a seriously flawed judgment. The utility of root-treated teeth must be properly and critically discriminated as they can play a significant role in the long-term plan, despite having unique characteristics that must be accounted for.

This study evaluates the mechanical properties of materials used in the post-endodontic restoration of root-treated teeth and examines their performance under stress to provide insights for material selection in clinical applications. Particular attention is given to zirconium oxide, which demonstrates promising characteristics due to its esthetic color and favorable material properties, positioning it as a potential material for future use in post-endodontic treatments. Three materials-prefabricated quartz fiber-reinforced composite, milled zirconium oxide, and additively manufactured cobalt-chromium-were evaluated using compressive-deflection tests.

A fractured instrument (FI) in the root canal is a common complication during root canal therapy. Under current medical conditions, instrument separation cannot be completely avoided because of the complex morphology of root canals and the limited surgical field and operating space of the surgeon. FIs, especially those broken in the apical third of the canal, render it difficult to completely remove infection in the root canal, where the residual infection can easily develop into reinfection.

Objective: This systematic review was aimed to assess the prevalence of apical periodontitis (AP) in Saudi Arabia, focusing on individual-level prevalence and the frequency of AP in endodontically versus untreated teeth.
Methods: This review followed the PRISMA guidelines and involved searches in several databases, including PubMed-MEDLINE, Cochrane-CENTRAL, and EMBASE, without date restrictions until August 19th, 2023. Eligibility criteria encompassed studies using CBCT, panoramic, and periapical radiographs to diagnose AP in the Saudi population.

Extrusion of root filling material had been shown to reduce the success of endodontic treatment. This case report describes the management of a patient who reported prolonged, persistent, and increasing pain on an upper root filled central incisor with extruded root filling material.
