The effects of an inhibitor of MAO-B, deprenyl, have been studied in aged male rats. Subcutaneous (s.c.) injection of deprenyl was followed by a facilitated acquisition of active avoidance behavior and a facilitated retention of passive avoidance response in a dose-dependent manner. Ambulation and rearing of aged rats in an open field were increased by deprenyl. No effect was found on grooming behavior. Apomorphine-induced stereotypies were potentiated and haloperidol-induced catalepsy was inhibited by deprenyl. Some elements of sexual behavior, i.e. latency to mounting and intromission and frequency of mounts and intromissions, were improved by deprenyl. Furthermore, deprenyl reduced the immobility of aged rats in a "despair" test, suggesting an antidepressant activity. Deprenyl seems to be effective in correcting some of the behavioral deficits of aged animals. Its behavioral effects can be related to the inhibition of cerebral MAO-B.

To explore the therapeutic efficacy of L-glutamine (L-Gln) on pathological progression and clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis (OA), and compare with glucosamine sulfate (GS), and celecoxib (CXB). Rats were administered sodium chloride, L-Gln, GS, or CXB via gavage for eight weeks starting from the fifth week after sham operation or Anterior Cruciate Ligament Transection (ACLT) + Medial Meniscectomy (MMx). Then the severity of knee OA in rats was evaluated by serological analysis, histological examination and imaging examination.

Aged-related cognitive impairments are associated with molecular neurodegenerations and impeded neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus (DG) of the damaged hippocampus. Neurogenesis requires activated cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein (CREB) pathway to enhance neuronal development, synaptic plasticity, cognition, learning and memory. Current research has reported that consecutive administration of D-galactose can accelerate brain aging by inducing oxidation and inflammation.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a long‑term, degenerative joint disease that presents significant clinical challenges and imposes considerable financial burdens. Fibrosis is closely intertwined with the pathogenesis of various degenerative diseases, including OA. Using data from the GDS5401 dataset, the present study determined that expression levels of the fibrosis factor connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) were significantly higher in OA patients than in normal individuals.

. In diabetic kidney disease models, carnosine supplementation ameliorates renal pathology, but its influence in other renal pathologies is less explored. Thus, using the transgenic rat TGRNeph-hAT1 with sex-dependent focal segmental glomerulosclerosis we first tested whether renal expression levels of carnosine system components correlate with disease.
