The lactoperoxidase (LP) system is a naturally occurring system which was first discovered in raw milk. Different groups of bacteria show a varying degree of resistance to the LP system. Gram-negative catalase-positive organisms, such as pseudomonads, coliforms, salmonellae, and shigellae, are inhibited by the LP system. Depending on the medium pH, temperature, incubation time, cell density, and the particular donor, these microorganisms may be killed. It has been shown that the LP system can increase storage times of raw milk by delaying growth of psychrotrophs; perhaps this method could be used to extend the shelf life of other foods.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a highly heterogeneous hematological malignancy. The key problem lies in the complexity of the genome, so that drug resistance and relapse have become the main problems. Recent studies have found an association between synaptotagmin-like 4 (SYTL4) and drug resistance in triple-negative breast cancer and its high expression is correlated with poor prognosis; however, it is unclear whether this gene is associated with the prognosis of AML.

Dental caries is a complex condition that results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Several genes have been found to play a role in teeth development and have been associated with various dental traits. In this study, our objective was to examine the potential correlation between the ectodysplasin a receptor (EDAR)-associated death domain (EDARADD), Lactoperoxidase (LPO) and Actinin Alpha 2 (ACTN2) gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to dental caries.

It is imperative to explore new biocompatible drugs with low toxicity for use in medicinal fields such as fighting tumors. Bovine lactoperoxidase (BLPO) stems from the most important enzymes in the bovine whey that provide a proper pattern for nano-formulation with nanomaterials. LPO is a suitable protein to be coated or adsorbed to alginate modified graphene oxide (GO-SA), which forms the modified GO-SA-LPO hybrid structure.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of zinc compounds on the candidacidal activities of lysozyme and the peroxidase (PO) and glucose oxidase-mediated peroxidase (GO-PO) systems against Candida albicans.
Methods: Four zinc compounds were used: zinc chloride, gluconate, lactate, and sulphate. Three antimicrobial systems were used: hen egg-white lysozyme (HEWL), the PO system [bovine lactoperoxidase (bLPO), potassium thiocyanate, and hydrogen peroxide], and the GO-PO system (bLPO, potassium thiocyanate, glucose oxidase, and glucose).
