Triclosan (TCS) is a broad-spectrum antibacterial compound which is used in many cosmetic products, medical devices and house hold products. Toxicity attributed to TCS has recently become a focus of research. Recent studies showed that TCS can easily migrate into the human brain and animal tissues and cause adverse changes in various target organs. Our knowledge of the neurotoxicity of TCS is largely based on very limited data. In this regard, adult male NMRI mice were administered TCS (1000, 2000, and 4000 mg/kg) by gavage for 14 consecutive days, whereas the control animals were given corn oil. At the end of the exposure, all mice were evaluated for locomotor activity, motor coordination and anxiety behaviors through the use of an open-field test, rotarod test, and elevated-plus maze (EPM) test, and for muscle strength in a grip strength test. A significant change in locomotor activity and coordination was observed in TCS treated mice. In parallel anxiety-like behaviors and muscle strength were affected by TCS. Haematoxylin-eosin staining also showed significant adverse effects in brain tissue of the TCS exposed mice. Based on these results, we conclude that a 14-day TCS exposure resulting in some behavioral disturbances in mice.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is implicated as a necessary factor in the development of multiple sclerosis (MS) and may also be a driver of disease activity. Although it is not clear whether ongoing viral replication is the driver for MS pathology, MS researchers have considered the prospect of using drugs with potential efficacy against EBV in the treatment of MS. We have undertaken scientific and lived experience expert panel reviews to shortlist existing licensed therapies that could be used in later-stage clinical trials in MS.

Geologic records of tropical cyclones (TCs) in low-energy, back-barrier environments are established by identifying marine sediments via their allochthonous biogeochemical signal. These records have the potential to reconstruct TC intensity and frequency through time. Tetracyclines (TCs) residues pose a significant threat to the aquatic environment and human health, therefore this study aims to develop a simple, rapid, and sensitive TCs detection method. Herein, a dual-responsive gel probe (LDH-CES@N) was designed, consisting of the intercalation of graphene quantum dots into europium-doped layered double hydroxide (LDH). In the presence of TCs, the as-prepared probe exhibited dual emission fluorescence at 504 nm and 616 nm due to the synergistic effect of aggregation-induced emission and antenna effect.

Background: To investigate the effects of 40 Hz high‐definition transcranial alternating current stimulation (HD‐tACS) on subjective sleep quality and domain‐specific cognitive functions in mild neurocognitive disorders due to Alzheimer’s disease (NCD‐AD).
Method: This study was a double blind, sham‐controlled randomized clinical trial. Ninety‐nine mild NCD‐AD patients were randomly assigned to receive a 4‐week course treatment of either 40 Hz HD‐tACS, HD transcranial direct current stimulation (HD‐tDCS), or sham transcranial current stimulation (HD‐tCS).
