Nanofibers have been attracting growing attention owing to their outstanding physicochemical and structural properties as well as diverse and intriguing applications. Electrospinning has been known as a simple, flexible, and multipurpose technique for the fabrication of submicro scale fibers. Throughout the last two decades, numerous investigations have focused on the employment of electrospinning techniques to improve the characteristics of fabricated fibers. This review highlights the state of the art of melt electrospinning and clarifies the major categories based on multitemperature control, gas assist, laser melt, coaxial, and needleless designs. In addition, we represent the effect of melt electrospinning process parameters on the properties of produced fibers. Finally, this review summarizes the challenges and obstacles connected to the melt electrospinning technique.

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is a prominent additive manufacturing technique known for its ability to provide cost-effective and fast printing solutions. FDM enables the production of computer-aided 3D designs as solid objects at macro scales with high-precision alignment while sacrificing excellent surface smoothness compared to other 3D printing techniques such as SLA (Stereolithography) and SLS (Selective Laser Sintering). Electro-Spinning (ES) is another technique for producing soft-structured nonwoven micro-scale materials, such as nanofibers.

Poor water solubility remains a significant challenge in the pharmaceutical industry that limits the therapeutic efficacy and bioavailability of many active pharmaceuticals. Soluplus (SLP), an amphiphilic graft copolymer made of polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl caprolactam, and polyvinyl acetate, has been gaining interest in recent years as it addresses these limitations by acting as a versatile carrier. Its ability to form stable amorphous dispersions and enhance drug solubility, as well as its physicochemical properties, support its role as a key excipient in advanced drug delivery systems.

Cancer poses a substantial threat and a serious challenge to public human health, driving the promotion of sophisticated technologies for cancer therapy. While conventional chemotherapy has bottlenecks such as low delivery efficiency, strong toxic side effects, and tumor enrichment barriers, magnetic micro/nanorobots (MNRs) emerge as promising therapeutic candidates that provide alternative strategies for cancer therapy. MNR is a kind of human-made machine that is micro- or nanosized, is reasonably designed, and performs command tasks through self-actuated or externally controlled propulsion mechanisms, which can be potentially applied in cancer theranostics.

Biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) was used to fabricate nonwoven fabrics via the melt blowing process, followed by electrospinning to deposit a nanofiber membrane. This composite process yielded PLA melt-blown/electrospun composite materials with excellent filtration performance. The effects of the solution concentration and spinning duration on the composite structure and material performance were investigated.
