Analgesic discoblock is widely used for the diagnosis or treatment of discogenic low back pain by injecting local anesthetics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the deleterious effects of local anesthetics on degenerated rabbit intervertebral disks (IVDs) using an organotypic culture model and in vivo long-term follow-up model. To induce IVD degeneration, a rabbit annular puncture model was used. For the organotypic culture model, degenerated IVDs were harvested 1 month after the initial annular puncture and cultured for 3 or 7 days after intradiscal injection of local anesthetics (1% lidocaine and 0.5% bupivacaine). To perform in vivo analysis, local anesthetics were injected into degenerated IVDs, and IVDs were prepared for histological analysis after 6 or 12 months. In the organotypic model, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling-positive nucleus pulposus (NP) cells were significantly increased in the bupivacaine group compared with the other groups. In the in vivo study, the number of NP cells was significantly decreased in the saline and local anesthetics groups compared with the untreated control and puncture-only groups. However, there was no significant difference among the saline, lidocaine, and bupivacaine groups. In addition, histological analysis showed no significant difference of IVD degeneration among the puncture-only, saline, lidocaine, and bupivacaine groups. Although bupivacaine induced apoptotic NP cell death in the organotypic culture model, in vivo observations did not show any definitive proof to suggest that local anesthetics were capable of promoting degeneration in the degenerated IVD, except for pressurized injection-induced damage. © 2019 Orthopaedic Research Society. Background: There is a paucity of literature regarding the effect of anesthetic techniques on anti-tumor immunity, especially in Oral cavity Malignancies. We designed a study to evaluate the effect of 3 anesthetic techniques - Opioid, Lignocaine infusion and Dexmeditomedine infusion-based on anti-tumor immunity, using TGF-β, T-helper cell profile and inflammatory markers such as IL-6 and IL-10.
Methods: A pilot prospective randomized trial was conducted in 90 patients undergoing surgery for Oral cavity malignancy under general anesthesia in a tertiary specialty cancer hospital.

Background: Modified thoracoabdominal nerves block through perichondrial approach (M-TAPA) is a trunk block that has been gaining attention for managing postoperative pain following abdominal surgeries since its first report in 2019. We conducted a scoping review on M-TAPA, aiming to comprehensively evaluate existing research, identify the gaps in knowledge, and understand the implications of M-TAPA.
Methods: This scoping review was conducted using databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and CINAHL to evaluate the clinical efficacy of M-TAPA on April 19, 2024.

Otitis externa is one of the most common diseases in otorhinolaryngological practice frequently requiring prescription of analgesic medications and antimicrobials. The total of 2714 patients were included in the retrospective study to evaluate bacterial etiology, effectiveness, and safety of topical empirical treatment of patients with diagnosed otitis externa during 2018-2023. The most common pathogens isolated were (38.

Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a neurotoxin that binds to sodium channels and blocks sodium conduction. Importantly, TTX has been increasingly detected in edible aquatic organisms. Because of this and the lack of specific antidotes, TTX poisoning is now a major threat to public health.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of intravenous lidocaine injection on the half-maximum effective concentration (EC50) of remifentanil in preventing cough due to tracheal extubation in female patients undergoing thyroid surgery by Dixon's sequential method.
Methods: A total of 50 female patients underwent elective thyroidectomy were randomly divided into two groups of a 1:1 ratio. Group L (lidocaine group) was given intravenous lidocaine (1.
