Published: March 2019

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effects of resolvin D1 (RvD1) on cerulein and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced severe acute pancreatitis in mice.

Methods: The model of severe acute pancreatitis was induced by cerulein combined with LPS in mice. Mice were treated with RvD1 at a dose of 150 mg/kg for 4 h after the last injection of cerulein. Pathological changes and scores were assessed by HE staining, serum amylase and lipase levels were detected by ELISA, serum tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels were determined by Luminex Assay.

Results: Cerulein combined with LPS successfully induced severe acute pancreatitis model in mice. RvD1 reduced the pathological changes of pancreas in severe acute pancreatitis mice, decreased the serum levels of amylase and lipase, as well as attenuated the serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6.

Conclusion: RvD1 can reduce the severity of severe acute pancreatitis induced by cerulein and LPS in mice.

Introduction And Objectives: High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy is an increasingly popular mode of non-invasive respiratory support for the treatment of patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF). Previous experimental studies in healthy subjects have established that HFNC generates flow-dependent positive airway pressures, but no data is available on the levels of mean airway pressure (mP) or positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) generated by HFNC therapy in AHRF patients. We aimed to estimate the airway pressures generated by HFNC at different flow rates in patients with AHRF, whose functional lung volume may be significantly reduced compared to healthy subjects due to alveolar consolidation and/or collapse.

Purpose: Based on the demonstration of a circadian rhythm in the human oral mucosa cell cycle, with most cells in the G2/M phase in the afternoon and at night, the present study evaluated the severity of acute radiation esophagitis and treatment outcomes in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients receiving radiotherapy (RT) in the daytime versus in the evening.

Methods: From the 488 eligible patients of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT), 369 patients received RT in the daytime (before 19:00) and 119 patients received RT in the evening (after 19:00). The grades of radiation esophagitis (Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 5.

Acute kidney injury is associated with liver-related outcomes in patients with hepatitis B virus infection: a retrospective cohort study.

BMC Nephrol

January 2025

Division of Nephrology, National Clinical Research Center for Kidney Disease, State Key Laboratory of Organ Failure Research, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, 1838 N Guangzhou Ave, Guangzhou, 510515, China.

Background: The effects of acute kidney injury (AKI) on liver-related outcomes in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remain unclear. The study aimed to evaluate the association between AKI with liver-related mortality and complications in patients with HBV infection.

Methods: The multicenter, retrospective cohort study included Chinese adults with HBV infection from 24 regional central hospitals between January 2000 and December 2022.

Background And Aim: COVID-19 is associated with neurological complications, termed neuro-COVID, affecting patient outcomes. We aimed to evaluate the association between serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and S100B biomarkers with the presence of neurological manifestations and functional prognosis in COVID-19 patients.

Methods: A multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted in three hospitals in the Emilia-Romagna region, Italy, from March 2020 to April 2022.
