Estimating the number of people in hidden populations is needed for public health research, yet available methods produce highly variable and uncertain results. The Anchored Multiplier calculator uses a Bayesian framework to synthesize multiple population size estimates to generate a consensus estimate. Users submit point estimates and lower/upper bounds which are converted to beta probability distributions and combined to form a single posterior probability distribution. The Anchored Multiplier calculator is available as a web browser-based application. The software allows for unlimited empirical population size estimates to be submitted and combined according to Bayes Theorem to form a single estimate. The software returns output as a forest plot (to visually compare data inputs and the final Anchored Multiplier estimate) and a table that displays results as population percentages and counts. The web application 'Anchored Multiplier Calculator' is free software and is available at [http://globalhealthsciences.ucsf.edu/resources/tools] or directly at [http://anchoredmultiplier.ucsf.edu/].

The first population size estimation of transgender and non-binary people in Georgia.

Int J Transgend Health

December 2023

Social Work, QUEER Association-TEMIDA, Tbilisi, Georgia.

Purpose: Accurate data on the number of transgender and non-binary people are essential for the effectiveness of planning and implementation of transgender services, as well as for advocacy, but these data are insufficient. Our goal in this study was to estimate the number of transgender people in Georgia and compare it with estimations in other Eastern European and Central Asian (EECA) countries.

Methods: We used a variety of methodologies, including the mobile/web app multiplier, service multiplier, and network-based capture-recapture (Telefunken) methods, which all were included in a survey of 100 transgender people.

Purpose: We determined the size of the transgender population in Shiraz, Iran.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the respondent-driven sampling technique was used by choosing eight seeds, three waves, and six coupons for each participant. The estimated population size was calculated by wisdom of the crowds, multiplier, and successive sampling-population size estimation (SS-PSE) methods.

Significant individual change should be used as a lower bound for anchor based estimates of meaningful change on patient-reported outcome scores.

UCLA Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research, Los Angeles, USA.

Interpretation of patient-reported outcome (PRO) scores has been supported by identifying score thresholds or ranges that indicate clinical importance. There has been a recent focus on the estimation of meaningful within patient change (MWPC). While much attention has been focused on anchor-based methods, some researchers prefer that a lower bound to these estimates should exceed a change score that could be observed due to measurement error alone as a safeguard against misclassifying individual patients as changed when they have not.

Bearing surface defect detection based on improved convolutional neural network.

This paper addresses the issue of artificial visual inspection being overly reliant on subjective experience and the difficulty for the human eye to accurately identify dense and non-significant defects. To solve this problem, we have implemented an automatic object detection algorithm based on an improved version of YOLOv5.First, we use the K-means++ clustering algorithm to automatically calculate the Anchor of the model to reduce the effect of the close location of the initial clustering centers on the clustering of the sample data.

Computational evaluation of the axis-blade angle for measurements of implant positions in trochanteric hip fractures: A finite element analysis.

Comput Biol Med

May 2023

Department of Orthopaedics, Fifth People's Hospital of Shanghai, Fudan University, No. 801 Heqing Rd, Minhang District, Shanghai, 200240, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Recently, a novel approach axis-blade angle (ABA) was developed to measure implant positions during trochanteric hip fracture surgery. It was defined as the sum of two angles α and β measured between the femoral neck axis and helical blade axis in anteroposterior and lateral X-ray films, respectively. Although its clinical practicability has been confirmed, the mechanism is yet to be investigated by means of finite element (FE) analysis.
