The Hiraoka transmission electron microscopy (TEM) grid staining apparatus, which allowed multiple grids to be batch stained together on a plate, is no longer commercially available. Because the need for such a device still exists, we developed a modified Hiraoka TEM grid staining apparatus by combining a Leica AC20 grid plate holder with a modified 3D printed grid loading holder and trays lined with Parafilm. This apparatus was then used to test a post-section contrasting method that uses gadolinium triacetate tetrahydrate solution, a non-radioactive uranyl acetate substitute, which produces similar staining results to uranyl acetate when used with lead stain in mouse ocular tissue for TEM.

Achieving sensors that can sensitively and selectively quantify levels of analytes in complex biofluids such as blood remains a significant challenge. To address this, we synthesized an array of isolated carbon nanochannels on a flat gold electrode that function as molecular sieves to prevent protein fouling and eliminate the need for antifouling layers. Utilizing a two-step pulsed technique, a reductive pulse expels negative interferences and fouling molecules followed by an oxidative pulse that oxidizes glucose at the bottom of the channel and on the gold surface.

Unlabelled: Male sterility is an important trait for breeding and for the seedless fruit production in citrus. We identified one seedling which exhibiting male sterility and seedlessness (named hereafter), from a cross between two fertile parents, with sour orange () as seed parent and Ponkan mandarin () as pollen parent. Analysis using pollen viability staining, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the mature pollen of the was aborted, displaying collapse and deformity.
