Background And Aims: EUS-guided through-the-needle biopsy (TTNB) sampling has been reported to improve diagnostic yield compared with cytology for the evaluation of pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs). The number of macroscopically visible tissue samples needed to reach an adequate diagnosis is still unknown.

Methods: This is a retrospective, single-center study on consecutive patients with PCLs with risk features (cyst >3 cm, thickened wall, cyst growth during follow-up, and mural nodules) who underwent TTNB sampling. The capability of differentiating mucinous versus nonmucinous cysts, ability to obtain a cyst-lining epithelium, definition of the grade of dysplasia, and specific diagnosis of cyst histotype were evaluated for 1, 2, or 3 TTNB macroscopically visible specimens.

Results: Sixty-one patients were evaluated. A 100% histologic adequacy was reached by 2 samples (P = .05 versus 1). Compared with cytology, 1 TTNB specimen improved the possibility of defining cyst histotype (P < .0001), whereas 2 specimens increased all 4 diagnostic categories (P < .003). Two specimens also increased diagnostic yield compared with 1 sample (P < .085). The collection of a third sample did not improve the value of any diagnostic categories. A specific diagnosis was reached in 74% of patients with 2 histologic samples. The diagnostic reliability of TTNB sampling compared with surgical histology was 90%, with a 22.9% rate of adverse events.

Conclusions: Two TTNB macroscopically visible specimens reached 100% histologic adequacy and a specific diagnosis in 74% of patients. The collection of a third specimen did not add any additional information and should be avoided to possibly decrease the risk of adverse events.

This study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the acute and subacute safety and phytochemical profile of pomegranate leaves, aligning with the growing interest in sustainable, plant-based therapeutics. The phytochemical composition, the acute and subacute toxicity of a spray-dried hydroethanolic extract from pomegranate leaves (SDE) were investigated using experimental animal models. Utilizing UV-visible spectrophotometry and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), a diverse array of tannins and flavonoids, totaling 38 compounds, was identified.

Pseudohaematuria Due to Mesalazine: A Case Report.

Nephrology (Carlton)

January 2025

School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia.

The symptom of macroscopic or 'visible' haematuria can cause significant patient distress, largely due to its' potential association with urinary tract malignancy, infection or glomerular disease. This lesson from practice describes the case of a 19-year-old female patient for whom the cause of red/brown urinary discolouration was found to relate to a reaction between renally excreted mesalazine and domestic bleach in the toilet bowel. Recognition of this phenomenon in patients taking mesalazine for inflammatory colitis is important to minimise patient distress and unnecessary investigation for a urinary tract cause.

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) plays an important role to respond in the defence against damage when tomato leaves are under different types of adversity stresses. This work employed microhyperspectral imaging (MHSI) and visible near-infrared (Vis-NIR) hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technologies to predict tomato leaf SOD activity. The macroscopic model of SOD activity in tomato leaves was constructed using the convolutional neural network in conjunction with the long and short-term temporal memory (CNN-LSTM) technique.

Introduction: This article presents the fourth detection of macroscopic cystic lesions due to sarcocystosis in domestic pigs during routine meat inspection worldwide, and the first molecular detection of in a domestic pig in Poland. Pigs can become intermediate hosts for by accidental ingestion of oocysts or sporocysts present in food or water contaminated by the faeces of canids (definitive hosts).

Material And Methods: The affected swine showed no clinical symptoms such as weight loss, dermatitis or dyspnoea suggesting sarcocystosis.

Stretchable devices, garnering increasing attention as next-generation form factors, have a crucial problem in that vertical contraction occurs during stretching, causing image distortion of stretchable displays and discomfort in skin-attached devices. Previous structural strategies to mitigate vertical contraction, such as auxetic reentrants and wrinkles, suffer from the drawback that their structure becomes visible during stretching. In this study, this issue is addressed by unidirectionally aligning nanoscopic cylinders within block copolymer elastomer films.
