Human platelets were labelled with aqueous 111In-tropolonate in comparison with 111In-oxinate. In normals the labelling efficiency with 111In-tropolonate was higher (93% +/- 2%) than with 111In-oxinate (67% +/- 8%) (P less than 0.05). In cases of severe thrombocytopenia, lower labelling efficiencies were obtained. In six normals a mean platelet life of 9 days +/- 3 days and an initial recovery of 59% +/- 15% were obtained. In twelve patients with thrombocytopenia the mean platelet life was 4 days +/- 4 days and the initial recovery was 58% +/- 20%. The absolute uptake of radioactivity in spleen and in liver in both groups are reported.

Background: Talquetamab (anti-G protein-coupled receptor family C group 5 member D) and teclistamab (anti-B-cell maturation antigen) are bispecific antibodies that activate T cells by targeting CD3 and that have been approved for the treatment of triple-class-exposed relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.

Background: Veno-occlusive disease (VOD) and transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TA-TMA) remain a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). Both VOD and TA-TMA share an underlying etiology of microvascular endothelial damage. Potential under-recognition of TA-TMA in the context of VOD leaves HSCT recipients vulnerable to additional endothelial damage, and risk of end-organ failure.

Transfusion of platelet concentrates (PC) can be a life-saving measure in case of severe thrombocytopenia or thrombocytopathy, particularly in bleeding patients. Although acaryote, platelets are involved in several important functions including immunomodulation, but their most important function is in primary and secondary haemostasis. In this German review, apheresis and whole blood derived PC are compared and indications as well as transfusion triggers and dosage of PC are discussed.

We report a rare case of a 45-year-old Asian male patient with concurrent multiple myeloma (MM), immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), and thalassemia trait, presenting with severe thrombocytopenia, back pain, and bleeding manifestations. The diagnosis was established through a combination of laboratory findings, imaging, and bone marrow biopsy, revealing 90% plasma cell involvement and KRAS/BRCA2 mutations. Management focused on controlling ITP with corticosteroids, rituximab, and platelet transfusions while addressing immunosuppression risks.
