Optical chirality sensing of unprotected amino acids, hydroxy acids, amino alcohols, amines and carboxylic acids based on a practical mix-and-measure protocol with readily available copper, iron, palladium, manganese, cerium or rhodium salts is demonstrated. The generation of strong cotton effects allows quantitative ee analysis of small sample amounts with high speed. In contrast to previously reported assays the use of chromophoric reporter ligands and the control of metal coordination kinetics and redox chemistry are not necessary which greatly simplifies the sensing procedure with the benefit of reduced waste production and cost.

Observation of intensity, phase, or polarization properties of light propagating through telecom submarine cables can enable widespread monitoring of geological and undersea events, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and shipping lane traffic. We conducted a comparative analysis of external physical perturbations acting on submarine optical cables and unprotected optical fibers; introduced both intensity and phase demodulation-based sensing systems for long-distance vibration sensing; presented an extension to the phase-spectrum time delay method for forward-transmission distributed sensing (same as optical communications) to distinguish and quantify multiple simultaneous vibration events; and overcame the previous spatial resolution fundamental lower limit set by the time-domain sampling rate. We experimentally demonstrated multi-vibration positioning over 202.

Context: Although AIDS-related deaths continue to decline, there are more people living with HIV than ever before. Sub-Saharan Africa remains disproportionately affected by the epidemic, with women aged 15-24 being over three times as likely to acquire HIV than their male counterparts. One reason for this disparity is that those engaging in 'transactional sex' do not benefit from governmental HIV prevention efforts.

Background: Infertility is a pressing global public health concern, affecting millions worldwide, and the diagnosis of unexplained infertility poses particular challenges. Human seminal plasma allergy, a rarely diagnosed type I hypersensitivity reaction, emerges as a potential but often overlooked contributor to female infertility. With rare reported cases globally, the condition's low awareness and insufficient differential diagnosis may mask its actual prevalence.

Wetlands in China's coastal provinces are strategically positioned along migratory flyways for waterbirds, serving as essential habitats and stopover sites due to the expansive land area and abundant wetland resources they offer. This study aimed to introduce a simplified index system to enable rapid assessment and prioritization of unprotected areas for wetlands in China's coastal provinces. A spatial analysis was conducted, combining wetland distribution and existing protected areas data and spatial extent of wetlands extracted by remote sensing data.
