: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the main cause of hepatitis worldwide. Our knowledge of this single-strand positive-sense RNA virus, discovered in the 1980s, has improved greatly in recent years. : We review the most recent information on diagnostic tools, including serological and molecular assays, the recommended diagnostic algorithm, and the clinical manifestations of HEV infections. : The performance of serological and molecular assays has improved greatly in recent years and the availability of a WHO standard has been invaluable for comparing the performance of molecular assays. The more efficient serological and molecular assays have led to a clearer picture of HEV epidemiology. It is now established that HEV is distributed worldwide. The European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) now recommends testing for anti-HEV IgM and HEV RNA. Molecular tests indicate that HEV RNA is very common in asymptomatic blood donors. The description of transfusion-transmitted HEV makes having optimal strategies essential for improving blood safety. Like other hepatitis viruses, HEV infection must be suspected whenever a patient presents with clinical or biochemical features of hepatitis. An HEV infection can also have extra-hepatic manifestations, especially neurological and renal disorders.

In the last decade, the emergence of variant strains of avian orthoreovirus (ARV) has caused an enormous economic impact on the poultry industry across China and other countries. This study aimed to evaluate the molecular evolution of the ARV lineages detected in Chinese commercial broiler farms. Firstly, ARV isolation and identification of commercial broiler arthritis cases from different provinces in China from 2016 to 2021 were conducted.

Background: Cryoablation induces antitumor immune responses. Spatial transcriptomic landscape technology has been used to determine the micron-level panoramic transcriptomics of tissue slices in situ.
Methods: The effects of cryoablation on the immune microenvironment in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were explored by comparing the Whole Transcriptome Atlas (WTA) panel of immune cells before and after cryoablation using the spatial transcriptomic landscape.

Molecular beacon (MB) probes have been extensively used for nucleic acid analysis. However, MB probes fail to hybridize with folded DNA or RNA. Here, we demonstrate that MB probes equipped with extra sequences complementary to the analyte, named 'tail', can increase the signal-to-background ratio by ∼40-fold and hybridization rates by ∼800-fold compared to conventional MB probes.

Neonatal screening is a critical public health initiative introduced worldwide to detect severe congenital disorders early in life. This study provides an updated overview of public neonatal screening in Brazil, highlighting the transition from initial pilot projects to a robust national program. Through the analysis of recent data up to 2023, we discuss the coverage and regional efficiencies of the program.

Antarctic organisms are known for producing unique secondary metabolites, and this study specifically focuses on the less-explored metabolites of the moss Warnstorfia fontinaliopsis. To evaluate their potential bioactivity, we extracted secondary metabolites using four different solvents and identified significant lipase inhibitory activity in the methanol extract. Non-targeted metabolomic analysis using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) on this extract predicted the presence of 12 compounds, including several not previously reported in mosses.
