A durable and ready to use Ge-Ga generator column material is required for its routine use in radiopharmaceutical procedures. The present work comprises preliminary studies for development and evaluation of chitosan-TiO based microsphere (C-TOM) composite towards its competence as a column material. The batch uptake studies showed higher distribution coefficients for Ge vis-à-vis Ga in the complete concentration range of HCl examined (0.01-1 mol.L). Furthermore, C-TOM showed enduring physical and chemical stability in 0.01 mol.L HCl with persistent Ga elution profiles (>95%) and negligible Ge breakthrough (2 × 10%) for the preliminary evaluation period of ∼2 months. Overall, the studies indicated that, Ga with high radionuclidic purity (≥99.99%) can be eluted routinely in a small volume (∼1.5 mL) of 0.01 mol.L HCl proving its potentials as a novel solid phase extractant for Ge/Ge generator system.

Improving the adsorption capacity of materials for pollutants by means of modification is an important direction in the research of water treatment technology. To improve the applicability of sodium alginate composites in the field of adsorption, magnetic sodium alginate-based hydrogel microsphere adsorbent material FeO@SA/PEI-Fe (FSPF) was synthesized in a single step by using polyethyleneimine grafting modification of sodium alginate by sol-gel method. The material was used for the removal of direct blue GL (DB 200) and direct date red B (DR 13) from simulated wastewater, as well as Cu(II) and Pb(II) from simulated wastewater with heavy metal ions.

The release of microcystin (MCs) in aquatic ecosystems poses a substantial risk to the safety of irrigation and drinking water. In view of the challenges associated with monitoring MCs in water bodies, given their low concentration levels (μg/L to ng/L) and the presence of diverse matrix interferences, there is an urgent need to develop an efficient, cost-effective and selective enrichment technique for MCs prior to its quantification. In this work, a gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-functionalized zwitterionic polymer monolith was described and further applied for the affinity enrichment of MCs.

Increased usage of electric arc furnace (EAF) slags as soil amendments and surface aggregates raises concerns regarding heavy metal release. However, no standardized leaching characterization approach exists for EAF slags and other industrial materials. This study compares test results for three EAF slags using several testing approaches: (i) total content analysis, (ii) single-batch extractions (i.

Carbyne-related materials permit exploring the potentially extraordinary properties of this long-sought but still elusive carbon allotrope. However, accurate understanding of these materials is challenging. Here we report the crystal structure of a Au-pseudocarbyne, a representative of a possible new family of materials consisting of sp-hybridized carbon chains and stabilizing metal atoms.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) show limited benefits from targeted therapies, but immunotherapy, particularly PD-1 inhibitors, has emerged as a potential treatment option, although responses vary among individuals.
  • A study analyzed data from 212 LUSC patients undergoing PD-1 combination therapy, focusing on making sense of various hematological indices at different treatment stages to find predictors for treatment outcomes and survival analysis.
  • Findings revealed specific hematological markers (like SCC and NSE levels) significantly correlate with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), suggesting their potential as independent indicators for predicting patient prognosis in LUSC.
