Daminozide (Alar) was found to produce N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-nitrodimethylamine (NITDMA) when treated with nitrite in acidic solution. Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH), the hydrolysis product of Daminozide, gave the same products. Use of N-nitrite and N-Daminozide showed that both the nitroso group of NDMA and the nitro group of NITDMA arise from the nitrite.

Daminozide (alar), a plant growth retardant, is used in different fruit orchard to make fruits attractive and reduce pre-harvest losses. Previously data demonstrated that acute daminozide exposure affected reproductive fitness and produced neurodegeneration in . The goal of this study was to determine whether continuous exposure to daminozide affects neuromuscular co-ordination in as manifested in various behavioral responses.

In our previous study we demonstrated that the fruit ripening retardant Daminozide or Alar causes change in life history traits, distortion of adult wing structure, DNA damage in brain cells and mutagenic effects in fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. As a continuation of the previous study the present work is designed to explore the metabolic modification of Daminozide following ingestion, the effects of Daminozide on the expression of genes which are pivotal for wing development and molecular interactions of Daminozide with those proteins involved in wing patterning. We demonstrated through reporter gene construct assay using X-gal staining method and transgenic Drosophila melanogaster stocks that the vestigial, wingless and decapentaplegic genes in wing imaginal disc from 3 instar larvae exhibited reduced expression when exposed to Daminozide in compare to control larvae.

Comparative tomographic study of the S2-alar-iliac screw versus the iliac screw.

Article Synopsis
  • Iliac screws and S2-alar-iliac screws are becoming popular for fixing lumbosacral spine issues, but there's limited research on their optimal positioning.
  • This study involved analyzing CT images from 25 patients to compare the insertion parameters of both screw techniques, focusing on measurements like length and depth.
  • Results showed S2-alar-iliac screws are longer and sit deeper in the bone compared to iliac screws, suggesting they might offer better clinical advantages for use in adults.

Alar (Daminozide) is a plant growth regulator which is widely used as a fruit preservative for apple and mango to prevent pre-harvest fruit drop, promote color development and to delay excessive ripening. The aim of the present work was to demonstrate the effect of Alar on several life history traits, adult morphology, Hsp70 protein expression and DNA damage in the brain of the model organism . We assessed the life history and morphological traits including fecundity, developmental time, pupation height, egg-to-adult viability and mean wing length, body length, arista length and sternopleural bristle number of the emerging flies.

As part of a study of metal ion effects on chemical transformations of nitrogen-containing agrochemicals, conversion of daminozide to succinate via cleavage of the hydrazide C-N bond was examined in the presence and absence of divalent metal ions. No conversion was observed in metal ion-free solutions or in the presence of 1.0 mM NiII, ZnII, and PbII.
