The ruthenium(II)-catalyzed C-H functionalization of (hetero)aryl azomethine imines with allylic acetals is described. The initial formation of allylidene(methyl)oxoniums from allylic acetals could trigger C(sp )-H allylation, and subsequent endo-type [3+2] dipolar cycloaddition of polar azomethine fragments to deliver valuable indenopyrazolopyrazolones. The utility of this method is showcased by the late-stage functionalization of bioactive molecules such as estrone and celecoxib. Combined experimental and computational investigations elucidate a plausible mechanism of this new tandem reaction. Notably, the reductive transformation of synthesized compounds into biologically relevant diazocine frameworks highlights the importance of the developed methodology.

Pd-catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenolysis Rearrangement of Allylic Esters to Access Axially Chiral Olefins.

Dalian University of Technology, School of Chemical Engineering, No 2 Linggong Road,Ganjingzi District, 116024, Dalian, CHINA.

The Pd-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenolysis rearrangement of allylic acetates using (s-Bu)3BHK has been described, achieving the synthesis of axially chiral alkylidene cycloalkanes with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) and a wide substrate scope (30 examples of cyclohexanes and cyclobutanes). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time to achieve synthesis of axially chiral olefins via asymmetric hydrogenolysis of allylic acetates. This methodology not only offers a novel synthetic pathway for non-atropisomeric axially chiral structures but also highlights the potential of asymmetric hydrogenolysis as a powerful tool in synthetic organic chemistry.

Polyurethane (PUR) soft foams release malodorous and potentially toxic compounds when exposed to oxidative conditions. Current chamber test methods cannot distinguish between pre-existing volatiles and those formed during oxidation, nor can they assess the formation rates of oxidation products. We subjected PUR soft foam to oxidative treatment in a continuous air flow at 120 °C.

Stereodivergent assembly of δ-valerolactones with an azaarene-containing quaternary stereocenter enabled by Cu/Ru relay catalysis.

Developing methodologies for the expedient construction of biologically important δ-valerolactones bearing a privileged azaarene moiety and a sterically congested all-carbon quaternary stereocenter is important and full of challenges. We present herein a novel multicatalytic strategy for the stereodivergent synthesis of highly functionalized chiral δ-valerolactones bearing 1,4-nonadjacent quaternary/tertiary stereocenters by orthogonally merging borrowing hydrogen and Michael addition between α-azaaryl acetates and allylic alcohols followed by lactonization in a one-pot manner. Enabled by Cu/Ru relay catalysis, this cascade protocol offers the advantages of atom/step economy, redox-neutrality, mild reaction conditions, and broad substrate tolerance.

We developed a novel, metal-free catalytic system for synthesizing a broad range of itaconates using α-ketoacids and allylic acetate. This method, leveraging phosphine and Mes-Acr(BF) catalysts, has proven versatile, enabling the efficient itaconation of peptides, the synthesis of bioactive itaconates, and the preparation of an itaconate-based bio-orthogonal probe.
