The oral microbiota is associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D), but the relationship between the oral microbiota and disease progression in the elderly population remains to be determined. In our study, we recruited 150 elderly Chinese residents and divided them into three groups according to their fasting glucose (FG) level: normal (N), high (H), and very high (VH). Their biochemical indexes were analyzed using blood samples. Saliva samples were collected and the oral microbiome was profiled by high-throughput sequencing of the V3-V4 area of the gene. Our results revealed that the VH group showed deterioration of the metabolic phenotype and dysbiosis of the oral microbiota simultaneously when compared to the other two groups. Furthermore, potential disease-associated bacterial genera including , and were significantly enriched in the VH group. These results suggest that dysbiosis of the oral microbiota may be a typical feature of hyperglycemia and might also contribute to disease aggravation in the progression of hyperglycemias.

Microplastics (MPs) and pesticides are identified as two environmental pollutants. In the present study, we showed evidence of toxic effects on honey bees from chronic oral exposure to food containing difenoconazole alone (Dif) and in a binary mixture with polystyrene (PS)-MPs (Dif + PS). We observed a disrupted gut microbial community structure in bees after difenoconazole exposure, and the gut microbiota structure richness increased at the phylum and genus levels in Dif + PS group.

Purpose: Gut microbiota dysbiosis significantly impacts ulcerative colitis (UC) progression and exacerbation. Probiotics show promise in UC management. This study evaluated the effects of different doses of LV149, an aquatic-derived probiotic, on gut injury repair in male C57BL/6 mice with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) and investigated the underlying mechanisms.

Objective: This study aims to explore the therapeutic mechanism of Massa Medicata Fermentata (MMF) with different formulations on spleen deficiency constipation in mice by analyzing gastrointestinal hormones, D-xylose, intestinal microbiota, and intestinal enzyme activities.

Methods: A spleen deficiency constipation model was established using an oral administration of Sennae Folium decoction combined with controlled diet and water intake. After successful model establishment, the mice with spleen deficiency constipation were treated with MMF S1, S2, S3.

Intestinal injury and microbiota disorder take part in the development of UC. In this research, we obtained an arabinogalactan (LBP-m) from Lycium barbarum and firstly characterized its physicochemical properties. LBP-m was a homogeneous polysaccharide (172 kDa) consisted of Ara, Gal, Glc, GalA, and GlcA with a mole ratio of 1.
