Aluminum (Al)-stainless steel 316L (SUS316L) composites were successfully fabricated by the spark plasma sintering process (SPS) using pure Al and SUS316L powders as raw materials. The Al-SUS316L composite powder comprising Al with 50 vol.% of SUS316L was prepared by a ball milling process. Subsequently, it was sintered at 630 °C at a pressure of 200 MPa and held for 5 min in a semisolid state. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns show that intermetallic compounds such as AlFe and AlFe were created in the Al-SUS316L composite because the Al and SUS316L particles reacted together during the SPS process. The presence of these intermetallic compounds was also confirmed by using XRD, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and EDS mapping. The mechanical hardness of the Al-SUS316L composites was analyzed by a Vickers hardness tester. Surprisingly, the Al-SU316L composite exhibited a Vickers hardness of about 620 HV. It can be concluded that the Al-SUS316L composites fabricated by the SPS process are lightweight and high-hardness materials that could be applied in the engineering industry such as in automobiles, aerospace, and shipbuilding.

In recent years, with the increasing patient population, the need for complex and patient-centric medications has increased enormously. Traditional manufacturing techniques such as direct blending, high shear granulation, and dry granulation can be used to develop simple solid oral medications. However, it is well known that "one size fits all" is not true for pharmaceutical medicines.

Nitrogen inputs for sustainable crop production for a growing population require the enhancement of biological nitrogen fixation. Efforts to increase biological nitrogen fixation include bioprospecting for more effective nitrogen-fixing bacteria. As bacterial nitrogenases are extremely sensitive to oxygen, most primary isolation methods rely on the use of semisolid agar or broth to limit oxygen exposure.

In this study an in situ forming gel for curcumin and piperine delivery is investigated as a long-lasting strategy in the local treatment of inflammatory and degenerative joint disease, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Particularly glyceryl monooleate, in association with phosphatidylcholine and ethanol, were employed. Different ratios between excipients were tested, with the aim to obtain a liquid form suitable for subcutaneous injection, gaining a semisolid consistency in contact with biological fluids.

Flexible electrochromic devices (FECD) have been widely applied in smart displays, wearable devices, and other fields, however, the synchronous improvement of electrochromic performance and flexibility is still a challenge. In this paper, a fabric-based FECD with "side-by-side" structure is designed and constructed through inkjet printing. The polyaniline nanosheets with good dispersion are used as ink and electrochromic material, and the self-developed semi-solid electrolyte based on polyvinyl alcohol serves as gel electrolyte.

The key role of enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation in the sensory quality of set yogurt made from whole oats was demonstrated. The optimal process was established by the orthogonal and response surface methodology based on the acidity, textural, and rheological properties. The results indicated that the enzymatic hydrolysis appropriately consisted of liquefaction with 12 U/mL α-amylase at 70 °C and pH 6.
