4-hydroxycyanobenzene (4HCB) is a dipolar molecule formed of an aromatic substituted benzene ring with the CN and OH functional groups at the 1 and 4 positions. In the crystalline state, it forms spiral chains via hydrogen bonding, which pack together through π - π interactions. The direct stacking of benzene rings down the - and -axes and its π - π interactions throughout the structure gives rise to its semiconductor properties. Here, high-pressure studies are conducted on 4HCB in order to investigate how the packing and intermolecular interactions, related to its semiconductor properties, are affected. High-pressure single-crystal X-ray diffraction was performed with helium and neon as the pressure-transmitting mediums up to 26 and 15 GPa, respectively. The pressure-dependent behaviour of 4HCB in He was dominated by the insertion of He into the structure after 2.4 GPa, giving rise to two phase transitions, and alterations in the π - π interactions above 4 GPa. 4HCB compressed in Ne displayed two phase transitions associated with changes in the orientation of the 4HCB molecules, giving rise to twice as many face-to-face packing of the benzene rings down the -axis, which could allow for greater charge mobility. In the He loading, the hydrogen bonding interactions steadily decrease without any large deviations, while in the Ne loading, the change in 4HCB orientation causes an increase in the hydrogen bonding interaction distance. Our study highlights how the molecular packing and π - π interactions evolve with pressure as well as with He insertion.

In this study, we developed new chiral hybrid perovskites, (R/S-MBA)(GA)PbI4, by incorporating achiral guanidinium (GA+) and chiral R/S-methylbenzylammonium (R/S-MBA+) into the perovskite framework. The resulting materials possess a distinctive structural configuration, positioned between 1D and 2D perovskites, which we describe as 1.5D.

In recent years, the accumulation of waste plastics and emergence plastic-derived pollutants such as microplastics have driven significantly the development and updating of waste plastic utilization technology. This study prepared the porous carbon (PC-1-KOH) material directly from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in waste plastic bottles using KOH activation and molten salt strategy for efficient removal of antibiotic tetracycline (TC). The maximum removal efficiency of TC was 100.

To overcome the barriers often met by traditional ophthalmic formulations, polymeric films can be utilized as an alternative to enhance drug retention duration while managing medication release. In the current investigation, polymeric films made of poly (vinyl) alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (CS) loaded with Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride (M-HCl) and plasticized with Glutaraldehyde were formulated as potential ophthalmic delivery for the treatment of conjunctivitis. The thickness, surface pH, opacity, folding endurance, and % hemolysis were measured, followed by the transparency, microscopy, electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, swelling index, and invitro drug release studies.

Propyrisulfuron, a novel sulfonylurea herbicide, effectively suppresses intracellular acetolactate synthase activity for weed control, but its adsorption behavior in the soil environment remains unclear. To assess potential agroecosystem risks, the adsorption-desorption behavior and mechanism of propyrisulfuron in six typical agricultural soils of China were investigated using a batch equilibrium method, Density Functional Theory (DFT), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy equipped with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) techniques. It is indicated that the adsorption-desorption of propyrisulfuron in six soils reached equilibrium at 36 hours under the optimum water-to-soil ratio (WSr) of 5:1.

In this study, we innovatively prepared a multifunctional lignin crosslinked polyacrylamide (L-cPAM) hydrogel by a sequential two-step strategy of crosslinking of lignin and crosslinked polyacrylamide (cPAM) followed by the polymerization of cPAM. The hydrogen bonding and crosslinking between the molecular chains of lignin and PAM established a rigid and porous network structure, which provided the L-cPAM hydrogel with excellent mechanical strength, thermal stability, and salinity resistance. A series of lignin dosages (0 to 30 %) were investigated during the crosslinking of lignin and PAM.
