Purpose: To compare the efficacy of Samfilcon A and Lotrafilcon B bandage contact lenses after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
Methods: In this study, patients with bilateral PRK were assigned for the fitting of Lotrafilcon B lens and Samfilcon A lens. The patients were examined on the day of surgery and on postoperative days 1, 2 and 3. Slit biomicroscopy was performed to assess epithelial defect size in the postoperative examinations. The subjective evaluation of pain and visual symptoms was recorded on postoperative days 1, 2 and 3.
Results: Analysis was made of 68 eyes of 34 patients who fulfilled the criteria and had PRK for correction of low to moderate myopia/astigmatism. On postoperative days 1 and 2, pain and epiphora scores were significantly lower in eyes with Samfilcon A lens (p < 0.001 for all), and on postoperative day 3, the differences were not significant (p = 0.414 and p = 0.180, respectively). There was no significant difference between the two lenses in respect of the levels of photophobia. The difference in epithelial defect size was statistically lower in eyes with Samfilcon A lens compared to Lotrafilcon B on day 1 (16.89 mm vs. 21.07 mm; p = 0.003) and day 2 (1.49 mm vs. 2.46 mm; p < 0.001). The difference was not significant on day 3. (0.05 mm vs. 0.05 mm; p = 1.000).
Conclusions: The Samfilcon A lens is superior to the Lotrafilcon B lens in reducing postoperative pain and accelerating re-epithelialization.

Purpose: To compare outcomes of LLR in VI/VII of the liver in Left-lateral Decubitus Jackknife Position (LDJP) and traditional Supine Position (SP). We used propensity score matching (PSM) to analyze clinical outcomes.
Patients & Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing LLR for liver tumors in segments VI and/or VII at Shandong Provincial Hospital from 2018 to 2023.

Neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD) who undergo cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) are at high-risk for unfavorable neurodevelopmental (ND) outcomes and are recommended for ND evaluation (NDE); however, poor rates have been reported. We aimed to identify risk factors associated with lack of NDE. This single-center retrospective observational study included neonates < 30 days old who underwent CPB and survived to discharge between 2012 and 2018.

Background: Minimally invasive cardiac surgery for mitral regurgitation is challenging in patients with narrow chests due to limited thoracic space. The butterfly technique can prevent systolic anterior motion in patients with degenerative mitral regurgitation and redundant posterior leaflets, but it is difficult to perform via minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Few reports have described mitral valve repair using the butterfly technique or in a narrow chest.

Introduction: The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol represents an advancement in perioperative care to reduce surgical stress and accelerate recovery. This meta-analysis evaluates the effectiveness of ERAS in pancreatic surgery.
Objective: To assess the impact of the ERAS protocol compared with conventional hospital care on postoperative outcomes, including length of hospital stay (LOS), hospital costs, readmission rates, and infection rates in patients undergoing pancreatic surgery.

Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) insertion is a neurosurgical procedure done routinely for managing hydrocephalus. However, the technique of shunt insertion remains controversial. In this study, we retrospectively compared the accuracy of shunt placement using ultrasound (US) guidance to freehand insertion.
