Studies on selenium (Se) and silicon (Si) foliar biostimulation of different plants have been shown to affect concentrations of phenolic compounds. However, their effects on olive ( L.) primary and secondary metabolites have not been fully investigated.

The improper disposal of olive mill wastewater (OMW) presents a significant environmental challenge for wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in the Gaza Strip. This study aims to evaluate the impact of OMW discharge on the operational efficiency of WWTPs, particularly during the olive harvesting season. To achieve this, samples were collected from both olive mills and WWTPs across the region and analyzed for key parameters such as chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD), phenols, oil and grease, and total suspended solids (TSS).

Leather waste contains up to 10% nitrogen (N); thus, combustion or gasification only for the energy recovery would not be rational, if safety standards are met. On the other hand, the chromium (Cr) content exceeding 5% in half of the waste stream (/) is too significant to be applied in agriculture. In this work, four acid hydrolysates from leather waste shavings, both wet-white free of Cr and wet-blue with Cr, were used: two with a mixture of acids and supplemented with Cu, Mn, and Zn, and the other two as semi-products from collagen extraction using hydrochloric acid.

Storage is important for virgin olive oil, a product obtained only during the harvest period, which requires a year-round storage until its best-before date. Low temperatures slow undesirable reactions, though this method is not widely applied. The objective of this paper is to assess the impact of frozen storage on the volatile composition and sensory properties of virgin olive oils.

Olive () fruit contains high amounts of tocopherols that are responsible, along with secoiridoid phenolic compounds, for most of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of virgin olive oil. This study focuses on the molecular and biochemical characterization of olive 4-hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase (OeHPPD) catalyzing the biosynthesis of homogentisic acid, which constitutes the phenolic residue in the tocopherol molecule. OeHPPD is a cytoplasmic enzyme with a molecular weight of 49.
